    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

    Poor adjudicators - they're going to be overwhelmed by the appeals.

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

    I still do not understand this idea - Sullivan will ultimately be closer than any potential link from Assembly. Are the stadium operators planning to use the MGB/Partners garage for events?

    New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

    That seems more like your personal opinion rather than true pragmatism. It's pragmatic for the State, Everett, and Boston to get a continuation of the harborwalk through a developer rather than graft-upon-later a piece of ped infrastructure or public space along the public's waters.

    Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

    I mean I think Reagan saw what happened in Philly with the Centre City Commuter Connection and decided that there couldn't be a second city in the Northeast with such an transit infrastructure advantage.

    MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

    I thought it was more of a concession structure - new system operator taking upto a certain limit for operations and then splitting the rest? At least that was my interpretation for how much they ballyhoo tap-to-ride payments and encourage it.

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

    $95 mn for a very architectural pedestrian and bicyclist bridge? I walked this bridge in Portland Oregon last year - it was about $20 mn in 2019 dollars. Google Maps says this is about 1/3rd the distance spanned - so that cost doesn't seem outlandish - given ~30% general inflation from 2019 to...

    General Massachusetts Politics Discussion

    Mass - the home of Democrats who take Republican policy positions. She's going to claim no tax for anyone under $70k soon too, isn't she?

    New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

    I think Harrison stadium is the closest - https://maps.app.goo.gl/XiqPk7yHVhdhYYvu6 - though Chester (PA) stadium is also similarly situated - https://maps.app.goo.gl/ApHTzju7MVBxf5AG8.

    Biking in Boston

    I found Boston driving similar to Pennsylvania driving - especially Pittsburgh. The balance of aggressive and chaotic driving with relatively low speed. Maryland and Virginia are aggro but very fast.

    Providence RIPTA Services

    That's contingent on constructed as a well-integrated transit system. A system that is slashing bus service now, even before rail is built, isn't putting forward a path toward that future. Again, as the Obama streetcars show, you can replace buses with a rail line and fail to serve riders - in...

    New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

    All for the pretty renderings - no thought what so ever for the activities that the structures contain.

    MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

    Are we sure that this statistic isn't related to the massive summer CR promotions?

    Providence RIPTA Services

    This is the backwards part - you don't get a viable rail option without an existing network of functional, well-patronized buses. The cases of the different 'Obama streetcars' tell the tale fairly well. The successful ones were built on the backs of a functioning, (relatively) well patronized...

    Providence RIPTA Services

    Q2 of 2025 shows a YTD rate of down by 3%. https://www.apta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/2025-Q2-Ridership-APTA.pdf Q2 of 2024 shows a YTD rate of up by 9% https://www.apta.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/2024-Q2-Ridership-APTA.pdf The year before was the rebound year - so a bit difficult to...

    Providence RIPTA Services

    This sounds backwards to me - if locals aren't already using useful transit - the homely bus in this case - then the visitors (who are often pickier and more likely to bail) won't even give a thought to local transit.

    New England Revolution Stadium | 173 Alford Street | Boston-Everett

    I think the hypocrisy is in Kraft's behavior on the Palestine fiasco (I have my out-of-state friends learning what a scumbag he is and telling me they're disgusted) and the questionable is the Trump relationship, Epstein connections, and the handy at the Orchids of Asia. Like most rich men, I...

    Providence RIPTA Services

    Yeah - the Governor and his transport (seems more like 'highways') chief looked really bad through this whole fiasco. I can only hope that the transit riders of Rhode Island also remember to advocate for themselves and for Rhode Island to restore their service before pursuing some big expansions.

    Down 10% on the bus. Uff.

    Biking in Boston

    I do think that 'vigilante' is the right word for this though. It's extra-legal, because the authorities aren't doing what they're supposed to do, and on the peaceful side of vigilantism.
