Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Somehow this thread turned into a Toronto-bashing festival?

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

A few tried the American way, most notably Rotterdam, but have spent the last few decades moving back towards traditional development patterns.

    Worcester Kelley Square

That just makes it worse if apparently MassDOT's own design guide doesn't provide for bike accommodations in roundabouts. There are plenty of international examples about how to design safer roundabouts for people walking, cycling, and driving:

    Worcester Kelley Square

In other words, MassDOT didn't plan for people biking at all.

From the pictures above it looks like they do have flashing lights at the x-walks. I hope they work! Of course I would have preferred raised x-walks but getting those anywhere in the Commonwealth is like pulling teeth.

    Worcester Developments

Those unprotected, on-street lanes are super frustrating. I remember attending a public meeting for this project back in 2015. Myself and several others advocated for fully-separated cycletracks in conformance with best practices. I moved away shortly thereafter but was hoping for the best for...

    Biking in Boston

I think it's a fair question. But also with climate change Boston will continue to see milder winters with less snow. Of course with occasional outlier years and storms as always. (Looking at you, winter of 2014-2015.) Boston only averages ~43 inches of snow a year, and much of that is...

Trees, Urban Forest, of Boston and New England

The tree canopy difference between Brookline and Allston is really striking. And frustrating.

This is the same developer as the Common Allbright co-living project in Lower Allston.

I agree, every time I walked by that lot on Comm Ave I thought it was begging for a redevelopment. Such a huge surface parking lot in a transit-rich location.

    Worcester Kelley Square

I'll reserve judgment till I can visit again, I guess. I used to live right by the square and walked / biked through it every day on the way to work. Felt safer to me than many of Worcester's large signalized intersections because it kept drivers paying attention to what was going on.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

The developers (ArxUrban) for this project are really great. As someone who has tracked/participated in many Article 80 projects in Allston/Brighton over the past few years, I'll say these guys really worked to engage with community members in a positive way. Moreso than pretty much any other...

    Worcester Kelley Square

I'm not quite sure it's an improvement for pedestrians... two lane unsignaled crosswalks can be extremely dangerous for people walking if the first lane of traffic yields but the drivers in the second lane don't, and subsequently don't see the person crossing the street because of the vehicles...

Boston Tech Center Redevelopment | 176 Lincoln Street | Brighton

I'm excited by the proposal to revitalize this block, but the quantity of new parking coming online in this corridor on both sides of the Pike is really concerning.

Pretty disappointing they slashed the units significantly but the parking remained completely unchanged.

I feel the same way! I don't have any expertise in construction or engineering, so it's always really interesting to hear from people on this forum who do.

Parcel 12 | Massachusetts Avenue at Boylston Street | Back Bay

Agreed. I'm looking forward to the completion of this project more than perhaps any other single project in the city right now.
