In case anyone was wondering, Google Earth just updated its imagery for Boston, including new Lechmere Station, the Red Bridge and the new State St tower.

It looks like it would have been woefully easy to install fare gates here. The current (albeit temporary) validation system is atrocious. I wonder if the city can extract station improvement money from any future developers in the immediate area.

I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but what's the chance that the new GL cars could be incorporated into 3 or 4 car trains in the near future? I know that they stopped them few years back to due "reliability" issues- could the new trains solve those problems/

How many of these things are in service now on the OL? I rode on a new train the other day, and passed 2 others going in the opposite direction, so presumably at least 3 trains worth

Just out of curiosity, what kinds of boats traverse the dam frequently? I can't imagine any commercial vessels making it that far up the river and I don't know of any regularly-scheduled pleasure or sightseeing boats that run on the Mystic.

A perfect world would see high level, fair-controlled platforms with full, built out stations covering the center bus lanes, but this is clearly impossible without a massive overhaul of the MBTA's fleet.

Is there any chance of this going the extra step from what we have at Columbus Avenue and becoming "gold standard" brt, like what was proposed for 28x? It would be amazing to have built-out prepayment stations, although it seems unlikely given the present proposal.

How high are the curb "platforms" on these stops? They appear to be a little higher than usual, and if they provide for level boarding with the busses, that would be amazing- and another step towards true BRT.

Very interesting photos- My wild guess would be that they result from the building owners possessing rights to sidewalk frontage that would allow them to erect signs like that (especially because in the last photo the sign is positioned on the crease between two different pavements) . If or why...

I mean, you are correct, but it's very difficult for a developer to inject "soul" into a big development that is designed souly to make money. Things change, so maybe eventually, but for right now Assembly is doomed to be a cluster of chain restaurants and shoe stores.
