Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Could be cool to rebuild an enlarged version of the Homan building entry facade (what was previously in this site). Some unique detailing and the lion head ornament could be tastefully reimagined.

Looks like the Somerville Arts Council was seeking mural proposals. Not sure status on this.

Parking garage panels are wrapping the back corner. I’m beginning to see pattern here - vertical stripes it is. Also, is there going to be rooftop parking, or (hopefully) green roof?

B+ for effort and a great repurposing of their property. Nice big Marvin windows do wonders too.

I know I need to just let this go…but this substation just drives me nuts. Blocking so many great views. Not all is lost though. With the Medford St bridge finally open you can see the other end of the community path and the other head house.

Are these long stay hotel rooms? It looks more like apartments for some reason. Maybe it’s the windows?

More demo. I like how the stop lights are in the heap.

    Some good cantilever happening.

Are these stick-on mullions?! They seem to keep falling off. Another cherry picker on site the last few days re-affixing them along all facades. You can see some windows are missing them altogether, some only missing the vertical pieces. Are faux mullions a thing??

It kind of looks like brick if you squint your eyes from really far away. ;)

Starting construction this week. I gotta say: a lab is a lab is a lab is a lab. BBJ.

I believe these condos have become rentals - at 471 Somerville Ave. The storefront also remains empty. Wonder why the difficulty of getting tenants? Looks they’re trying anything to get it filled…including an AstroTurf mini-golf side yard?! ;)

    350 Boylston Street Public Meeting

Boston Biz Journal also has a piece on this. They note that the building failed to get Landmark status by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 2006. Tough crowd! If a 118 year old bldg with exquisite details doesn’t make the cut, what can? Old news I suppose, but does anyone know the story on that?

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

One of the Sq’s little gems is getting new digs soon (right next door to its current spot).

A few months back we discussed the color variations of precast panels. Seems like that’s intentional, not just dirt or whatever. I like them, they read as rich varied stone rather than matchy matchy painted uniformity. Silver window frames are also interesting, good pop to them.

Wrap and windows going in at Somerville Ave and Central St apts. I’m really liking the playful angular bump outs. Looks like a few windows are contained within them too.
