    Logan Airport Capital Projects

At one point in recent years they'd been planning a proper people-mover, though I haven't heard anything about that lately. I don't know if that got outright cancelled or just temporarily suspended (though around here "temporarily suspended" has a nasty tendency to turn into "cancelled").

    The Official MBTA System Map

I figured it was inspired by another system's style. It's a valid design choice, and I think if the font weight was heavier (and in a darker color) my concerns about legibility would diminish. I'll definitely say that between the thin lines and the font choice, it's a very pretty piece of design...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I don't think they much care about specifically how long it takes to load and unload, so much as about the overall turn time between flights. (Southwest, once upon a time, could turn a 737 in ten minutes) If baggage loading/unloading, galley replenishment, any crew changes, and paperwork mean...

    BCEC expansion | Seaport

Why? To make it harder to attract events? (Not that it'd be unreasonable have an argument over whether that would be a good thing, it's clearly not what the powers that be are interested in.)

Yup, looks like it. Great work on that. Weird to see the Orange Line routed to Copley, though that does make the most sense for the transfer. (I may have missed it, has the T said if the shuttles are serving Copley or Back Bay proper?)

    It's the courthouse, mid gut-and-rebuild.

    The Official MBTA System Map

I think you did a pretty good job with the Green Line, and personally I think that you did a better job relating the E to the D and Orange than the official map does. (It looks wonky as hell, but that's because the actual E takes that big turn onto South Huntington.) I particularly like that the...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

And yet the GLX documents The EGE posted clearly stated that 50mph was the design maximum speed from Science Park to Red Bridge Interlocking, so it's somewhat semantic as to which project the viaduct was technically part of, there was clearly an intent for the max to be 50 over the viaduct...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

In one of the pictures there looks to be a square area on the top, flat surface of the gate (behind/above the black CharlieCard tap reader) that might be the QR code/barcode reader. It would be extremely funny if these expensive paperweights were incapable of scanning electronic tickets, though.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

True, but there's no way that a safety factor should result in a maximum of 50% of the design speed stated in the GLX contract documents on a closed system with specially-trained operators. (Not to mention on a line that sees higher speeds than 25 in a number of areas.)

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Yeah, I couldn't tell if your post was more towards the "sardonic humor" side or the "serious with a side of sarcasm" side, it was definitely funny either way, though, but I figured it also wouldn't hurt to throw out some responses to the inevitable comments (less here than elsewhere, perhaps)...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Tempting, but apart from exorcising long-suffering frustration, it wouldn't likely do any good. Re-starting from "scratch" so to speak is impossible. The trains need to run (that's, ah, rather the basic problem), and that means someone needs to run them. You can't just outsource an agency this...

Because it's not a statewide crisis, or even anything close to it. Not in how it's perceived and covered by the media, not in how it's perceived by (at least a chunk of) the public, and certainly not how it's perceived by the politicians. The portion of the public who rides and depends on the T...

Which suggests that theoretically other operators (i.e. Yankee) might, or might not, have similar issues, but doesn't actually answer the question of the previous discussion, which is whether they have enough people and vehicles to cover the MBTA shuttle service they've just been contracted to run.
  16. Brattle Loop

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Do you have information suggesting that they need 200-250 additional drivers, or is that number out of thin air? More to the point, Yankee obviously has buses and drivers (even if maybe not quite 'enough'), I don't see why they'd simply have to add a whole new fleet of people and vehicles to...

They're a charter company, aren't they? They presumably have employees to drive their buses. Presumably they decide that a guaranteed, large contract is better than their usual fare of bus charterings (does make me wonder if any of their smaller customers might get dumped to focus on the OL).

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

To be fair, very little of what the MBTA's done lately suggests that they are in any way interested in encouraging people not to drive :ROFLMAO:

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

It's not clear to me, does anyone know if service between North Station and Government Center is suspended entirely or not? The T's statement keeps talking about the Union Square branch (the E) without making clear whether it's just the E that's bustituted or if the D's culled north of GC.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Well, between the shutdown and the rampant unreliability of the entire line (and much of the system) unrelated to the new cars, it's hard to focus on silver linings. Not to mention the fact that even with 78 cars they'd only have 13 trainsets (without spares). A decade-plus ago before the rot...
