    Boston College Master Plan

NGL, I also had the same reaction they did since I'm not familiar with the BC campus - for context, below street view snips are apparently the current building that will be gothicized.

    Biking in Boston

So I generally like Streetsblog, but this while this one has merit on the whole it suffers from a couple of issues... Namely, it conflates total project budgets with what was actually programmed for spending in FY27 and beyond. JP South/Centre is described as having a $1M budget being cut to...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

So I think both of us likely do some work in gov contracting, but I'm admittedly mostly on the side of those items typically procured only under the UPA, so I'll disclaim too much familiarity with any of the other sections. I think we're perhaps speaking past each other a little, so I'll...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Ehh it's honestly pretty common that sending the full RFP is restricted to only the RFQ or prequal'd respondents for business / bidding purposes. They did it for Type 10 procurement, for one example. Not giving it to the Globe when FOIA'd is a little weirder.

Public Safety Building/Cobble Hill Redevelopment | 90 Washington Street | Somerville

SRA on 4/10 received two proposals for the 90 Washington Street site, only one of which included graphics. Based on their timeline, going to move quickly from this point to selection or rejection by July. https://www.somervillema.gov/90-washington-redevelopment Wood Partners: 324 Units, 398...

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

The CRA on Thursday voted to select a developer for 2326 Mass Ave - 6 story building (Mass Ave zoning allows for 8 by right), containing 16 condo units, 3 deed restricted affordable, no retail. They're selling the site to the developer at a discount as a subsidy for the affordable units, and...

    Residential/Retail Development | 2400 Mass Ave | Cambridge

This iteration of the project is now officially dead: the Site will be sold to the CRA on Wednesday for ~15.8M, but the CRA already held the mortgage and a 5M equity investment in it. I've also attached the content of an email from the developers sent to abutters.

    Biking in Boston

Somerville recently (last week) published it's final plan for the "Elm-Beacon Connector." Generally looks quite good, cleans up the messy that is the Willow-Beech movement, removes through vehiclular traffic from Mossland via providing a bike filter. That second one I expect will get pushback...

Has anyone ever introduced you to the game cities skylines? Me thinks you might enjoy it :)

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I don't think there's much research and actual data on actual safety in pedestrian tunnels, but there's definitely an issue with perceived safety in pedestrian underpasses. It's really more about the psychology - There's something about the enclosed nature of a tunnel or underpass that leads to...

    "Dirty Old Boston"

Interestingly enough, I think that's actually been excavated, then flooded, then refilled when they built the pru rather than the other way around. Comparing the 1955 aerial to the 1962, it's fairly apparent that the formerly flat railyard was "dug down" substantially.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

?? Hynes Convention Center is on the Green Line central core? It and Boylston are probably the busiest non-accessible stations in the system.

Tallest building in town, can you name the city?

Salisbury MD! Took a punt at the sign and plugged that into a corporate search - not too many companies include the exact string "Joseph M." ... And don't you get me back looking at airports!

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

And here's an isometric from the Parcel 13 Feasibility study that shows it as a cutaway in 3D space - the Lyrik elevator is at the western end of the tunnel.

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

My understanding is that it's significant enough of a change that would trigger the full accessibility requirements for the entirety of Hynes Station, or at least an accessible path of travel to the platforms. That was supposed to be funded and completed contemporaneously as part of the Parcel...

    MBTA Construction Projects

If it's one of those big stationary industrial generators... Those kinda don't really exist in stock. The last time I needed to price one out, which was solidly pre-covid, the lead time then from order to delivery was like 20-30 weeks. I assume it's even longer now, especially since data centers...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

See above for scope of work, as described in the briefing for the designers being contracted. 1) didn't they recently (2021?) complete a full depth reconstruction of the E branch's street running trackwork? That probably didn't touch the power infrastructure, but it'd be annoying if they're...

Ahh, I'd still keep the if clause around... I'm generally not sure if Berklees finances are healthy enough to sustain the major spending that new construction would require...

Chestnut Hill Infill and Small Developments

RT9 is an overused road as it is... I think you'd struggle to get buy in for a road diet at any level, as it's such a heavily used corridor East of 95, but especially the Chestnut Hill segment. I don't think I've ever been on that corridor and seen it not incredibly busy - I would generally...
