I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I agree that’s what we should do, but Stick n move fixed it after the fact. The original comment was a copy of the full article, which I think is fine if there’s a paywall but otherwise not ideal.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I don’t really know what the forum sentiment is but I think it would be better to just link non-paywalled articles instead of copying and pasting them. I’m sure Streetsblog could use the clicks/revenue.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Someone asked Eng about this in the most recent Ask the GM and he pretty much gave no answer from what I recall. I also tried to ask him about bus electrification and why we are prioritizing BEBs at the expense of our trolleybus network and he pretty much gave no answer there as well. I...

    The New Retail Thread

I’ve been to Swingers in NYC and it is much better than Puttshack. Puttshack relies heavily on the novelty of alcohol and electronic score tracking to make up for the extremely basic and repetitive courses. Swingers had more unique holes that would be competitive with something like Kimballs...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Healey administration plans to freeze state hiring I would hope the administration has the foresight to not include the MBTA in this freeze, but I haven’t found any indication that the T is exempt in the coverage so far.

That’s interesting, is the Green Line the only line that doesn’t have continuous welded rail?

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

It’s a shame they punted on the SL6 and alternatives beyond Sullivan. This seems like the bare minimum of the alternatives they were considering.

Do these support in motion charging? The video shows what appears to be a normal pantograph but only mentions stationary charging.

Dispatcher shortage? Green Line tends to wait at signals a lot.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

True, but I image that if the buildings or at least the podiums are build at the same time the highway is built there would be considerable cost savings compared to building over an active highway. Once the highway is active there is no advantage to these air rights parcels over the ones further...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Is there a reasonable estimate for the cost savings if DCR road-dieted Soldiers Field Road to 2 or 0 lanes? Seems that would save a lot of cost in the throat area and remove cars from Storrow. Another idea would be to lift all zoning limits on developments that cap the highway here and use the...

Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

Appears to be the development directly across from Bow Market on Somerville Ave.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I’ve noticed in the portal when heading Science Park > North Station there is a stop sign (not signal) that all trains stop at. Is this related to track condition that could ever be resolved, or just to allow operators eyes to adjust to the dark tunnel?

    20-23 Cummings Street | Somerville

I’m pretty sure I heard in a recent city council meeting that Somerville is now requiring new lab projects to have tenants secured before permits are issued. Hoping that means some of these projects convert to residential before construction begins.

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Yes Lynn would need full length trains to handle CR transfers. South Station > Airport terminals > Chelsea > OL should be its own line anyway, I’m just making the case that an LRV BL conversion and branching is not a good investment. I don’t see REM as a gadgetbahn, it uses standard rolling...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

This is mostly in response to ideas for Blue Line LRV conversion, which would be very expensive and result in less capacity. The perceived benefit of converting to light rail would be lower expansion costs for more branching, but as GLX shows light rail extensions can also be extremely...

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Automated light metro like the Montréal REM is a much better solution for the Blue Line than any sort of light rail conversion.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Unfortunately no. The recap video they just posted says they removed 12 restrictions, two more than planned; reducing travel times by 4 minutes. Not sure if that’s round trip or one way.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Where did you hear this? The last I heard it was due to them needing custom ties for the viaduct. https://mass.streetsblog.org/2023/01/18/temporary-green-line-slow-zone-approaches-1-year-anniversary

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

95 is effectively a ring road, and all highways within it could be eliminated if NSRL is built with park&rides where it intersects Commuter Rail lines.
