New Red and Orange Line Cars

Definitely accurate that not all of this is within CRRC's control. However, I still think we are being too soft on them with regard to some of the other problems that have gone on specifically as it relates to the Springfield factory and delays that have happened over there. Just my opinion.

Jeff Gonneville just told the full board another OL pair will be delivered tonight, bringing it up to 114.

This info just came out of this morning's subcommittee and full board meetings. I understand why they are doing it, but relieving late penalties, rewarding them for meeting the updated schedule, etc. etc. and paying them up to $148 million MORE so that way the end of the contract is 13 years...

All scheduled service will be 2-car trains. You may still see unscheduled 1-car trains at times for various reasons (mechanical issues, extra detail car, high number of call outs, etc.) Recently I drove a morning rush hour train on the B branch as a single, 19 minutes after the previous train...

Yep. Many people who like Mattapan also like it because it's relatively quiet, but at least anecdotally, less supervision is a big part of that. I obviously have not surveyed every single operator, as much as I might want to in order to get into the brains of some people.

I don't even think it's just a high-seniority thing. A lot of people even in my hire group, and other recent hire groups, hate the Type 9's (though the hatred is perhaps a bit less common among younger operators). Certainly though I think the 9 hate is borderline universal amongst older and more...

Time for Brookie to eat her words a bit. Taking a cursory look at pantograph, it looks like 20 of the Type 9's have been out at some point today and only one of them (3903) has not been out in the last four days (3903 being out since last June). So either the carhouse has improved with getting...

The 9's are definitely a lot more popular among riders than ops employees. I like driving them, but the 9's force you to be more careful when driving. The legitimate gripes I can come up with for the 9's: -the mirror is slow to retract -at very slow speeds the non-emergency braking can be a...

The Blandford siding is, to my knowledge, out of service (which is why the B diversions crossed back at Babcock). They did remove the trash bag thingy that was covering the "stop here to cross back" sign at Blandford, so maybe it will be back in-service soon. My question is why we didn't fix...

Crosstown service is a whole other can of worms. One day not that long ago I was a cover at Union Square and had an hour before my next trip and wanted Starbucks and went to the Kendall one since it was the first one that I thought of (Lechmere and Central's Starbucks locations are of a similar...

Part of the problem here is not what the Green Line does for its outer reaches, but rather what the Green Line does for downtown. It tries to fill the role of rapid transit in downtown and it doesn't do an especially good job of it. At the very least, Kenmore to North Station is the heart of the...

    Site Issues

I have the same question, as a trans person badly awaiting her username change, part of me is tempted to make a new account just so I don't have to look at a username that references (but thankfully in a stroke of luck does not directly use) my deadname. @vanshnookenraggen - any clue how to...

Did the town install some system to detect a train? Because the lights on the C are the least bad out of the three main surface branches. I thought Brookline had installed the lights to be TSP-ready if the T had ever gotten on board with it, but from what I had heard the T did not want to...

The Type 8's also have key switches for the center doors on the inside and outside, and the Type 9's also add an interior key switch for the front door. The 7's only have the exterior key for the front door. What station was this at? At a terminal stop like Lake Street or Cleveland Circle, we...

Predictably, it was a Type 8 (#3819) that derailed. Looked like it derailed right on the switch just east of Kenmore on the westbound. The speed over that switch was 6 mi/h pre-shutdown. I was the first C train to take the Kenmore loop, and based off the crowd of confused people, I was either...

It's gonna be a long two and a half weeks. The Green Line was in shambles today. I was stationed at Copley station and there were Yankee and Academy people giving incorrect info, trains bunched like there's no tomorrow, packed trains, packed platforms, a broken elevator, a train with a door...

That is true, the signal protection in the Turnback area is set up that a train at Science Park cannot leave until the train in front of it is, I believe, at the curve right before the North Station platforms. I forget what the signal bounds are headed toward Science Park but I know it's...

The rule is we can now only be only expressed between ADA-accessible stations. This doesn't matter that much on the heavy rail with the one inaccessible stop being Bowdoin, which you couldn't express past no matter how much you try (at least till Red-Blue is done then *every* train will express...
