Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

I would assume that google used the same "x pixels per foot" idea that you did. I used the google earth tool and got 305.7 feet, which is only a little more than an inch more than you had.

On Google Earth's measuring tool, you can set the length measurements to feet, and just check it that way. You could also see how many meters or smoots it is.

    BU Development Thread

I lived in Sleeper for a semester, those three dorms are pretty terrible inside. I can see how this tower will mess up Rich's views, but shouldn't it have no effect at all on Claflin's views? I remember Claflin facing a different way entirely.

General South Bay Development (Formerly Gateway Center)

The reason everyone is talking about cars is that you made a car related analogy to explain your point. Deconstructing the analogy will not really kill your point, but you put forth a very extreme view that I don't think is accurate. Even if living in downtown Boston is the 'BMW of Housing'...

General South Bay Development (Formerly Gateway Center)

I live in Boston without a car and I do just fine. In fact, driving in Boston is so terrible I'm glad I don't have a car. I wasn't under the impression that the subsidized apartments were the equivalent of a $75 Filet Mignon bought with food stamps. I was under the impression they were simply in...

General South Bay Development (Formerly Gateway Center)

If BMWs were essential to life in our society (like, for instance, a place to live), then I would have no problem with subsidized BMWs. However, they are not, so your analogy falls short.

    115 Federal St. (Winthrop Square)

I think the machinery on top is going to be covered by flowers, but your point is quite accurate. A very small change can take it from "well, I guess that's alright" to "I can't wait til that's built."

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

1260 Boylston isn't going anywhere, it was completely redone last year to be a space for the Boston Conservatory. The guys in suits were probably lawyers. There's a recording studio in the building that wants to sue the Conservatory because the rehearsals are loud enough that they're appearing...

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

Machine is a bar on Boylston, close to the Fens. It's a gay bar, but still a bar. Also, one thing that I think might discourage development is the Fens, it's not a very nice place at night. I walk from 1260 Boylston (new Boston Conservatory building) past the Fens every night at about midnight...

    City Hall Plaza

To further beat a dead horse, I'm in Louisville for the summer and we had all the shots of Boston here. It seemed odd at the time that they picked one city from the US to show and then showed the worst place in it. It does seem like having events like that more often could really improve it though.

BU plans new dorms for 1,500 students

I can't imagine that BU is in a money crunch, with the amount of money they make people to pay to live in some of their dorms. They make you spend a ridiculous amount of money to live in places where nothing works and nothing gets fixed. At least their West Campus is that way. Also, given how...
