Since its going to be a mid rise base with one narrow high rise section anyway, why cant they leave the two existing historic structures on both ends and just demolish the middle one and make that the tower, maybe with a bit of cantilever. Doesnt even have to be a full facadectomy.

Love that they are building housing. Like that they made an effort to contextualize the design, at least using brick colored panels, some inset windows, and looks like some some real brick. The massing feels awkward, but I suppose its a constrained site and they did the best they could.

Wow, so ugly, also why no housing tower on top of podium? Seems like that would be a location there would be little community opposition. Its a huge site. Could probably fit two dorm towers with 1600 beds.

I wanted to hate it but I actually like it design wise. Its like a well done tower in the park theme and the landscaping is really top notch, like NY high line level. Now in terms of the program, its way too office heavy vs residential and the residential should be much denser, same complaint...

I agree, feels gimicky but then they didnt fully commit to the gimmick and added other random elements. I feel like modernism in a historic neighborhood is only good if its really good. That said, its not bad and its nice many units get an outdoor space.

I work in that area sometimes and walk down Middlesex. Its not too bad. Although 1400 parking spaces in this projects and thousands more in the other projects may make it worse. Im not sure how this project ties together with the rest of Somerville as they claim. Although I do think its hard...

No pointless cantilevers, no colorful alcubond, no mixed different facades. Ill take this over a poorly thought out attention grab any day.

I really dont like MIT or Harvard recent architecture, but at least MIT has a theme, although it seems to be evil alian invasion or something, but Harvards new stuff is just like a suburban office park menagerie of random gimmicks. MIT's feels more urban, although maybe they just had no choice...

Seems like a win. I would like to see more density, and that could include more step down and a street wall on Rutherford ave. It does seem slightly Le Corbusier. Which is fine but doesn't really fit historic Charlstown.
