Totally get where you're coming from. My guess(es) are thus: as regular riders become more familiar with it, they'll know to (for example) open their umbrella earlier (or leave it open longer) or truly torrential days; I expect there will ultimately be some type of "join" between the headhouse...

Sure. For the same reason I don't wish the arches had doors. It's the outdoor part of the station and all aspects that enhance the "outdoors-ish-ness" of it are fun. The notion that walking under that extremely narrow "gap" will somehow ruin a person's outfit or hair or bag or whatever if it's...

In my time there, "Lower Allston" mostly meant - nothing is there and we are sad and want to hang out with people in actual Allston. :P

Prior to seeing this pic, I had no idea that "South Allston" was a thing -- and I owned/lived there for 13 years. Weird.

Hmmmm... now that I see it again, I guess I agree with the above assessments. I do wish we had more spires, though ("more" as in "more than just the one on the old JHT").

I'm sure it's somewhere within these 248 pages, but do you happen to have handy a link to that '99 proposal? I remember a bunch -- some truly awful; some, like the current (but with a spire) were slightly better than what we got -- but I don't recall the one you're referencing.

Hard agree. Menino maybe deserved some (a lot?) of the ribbing he took, overall, but his, "Sorry, fellas -- flat roofs don't cut it" comment (to the developers of 111 Huntington, when the initial proposal didn't have a crown) was spot-on (even if architecture folks make -- or made -- fun of...

If this was approved back in '23, do we have any updates as to why nothing's happened/happening on the site still?

I take the Orange Line 2x daily during the week and I feel like I've observed the issue in question happen exactly once since the CRRC fleet replaced the old.

I walk (and drive) along the Greenway often and am at North Station/the Garden, as well as East Boston a lot, so -- to me -- One Congress is plenty visible, but you're (of course) correct that from perhaps more traditional money-shot angles of the skyline -- Charles River Basin and anywhere West...
