Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

From my old timetable (2011), the 45MPH speed was over the movable span only. The speed through the rest of the interlocking was 60MPH

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Why not combine Readville and Cleary Square at a point between the two? There's plenty of room to build there and then place another stop at Clarendon Hill, which is where the pedestrian overpass exist at "Kelly's". I think it spaces out gives the railroad a little extra space at Cleary Square...

Born here, dodging Budd cars in Hyde Park.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

If you want higher frequencies you need faster acceleration and higher top speed for commuter equipment. And greater capacity with more sidings. It's tough keeping a diesel train, making frequent stops, ahead of an electrified Amtrak train making limited stops, moving at much higher speeds.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The rail work is mostly completed on the South Coast Rail project. Delta Corp is De- Stressing welded rail and removing joints. Most of the remaining work is related to signals, stations and punch lists such as drainage, interlocking work such as switch heaters etc. Also, Crossings are being...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It would NOT skip Providence. I pointed out that Regional service would remain on the original route and Providence High speed rail service would still be part of the plan. With the prospects of electrification of commuter rail, the need to link Boston and Providence with Acela service would be...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The existing platforms are at the same elevation as the old station layout. The tracks were lowered to accommodate high level boarding. There is very little room left below the station tracks.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

BTW. This was when the Southwest Corridor was under construction and we ran on what we called the "Second District" The Midland Division main line.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Just noticed the mention of mileposts used on Amtrak's NE Corridor. An interesting fact about those mileposts is that it is measured from New York's Grand Central Station. The distance to Penn Station is about five miles longer than those mile monuments.

Why couldn't the sea wall barrier experts agree will be necessary also be used as a transportation corridor? Killing two birds.

Great photos of rooftops that have, unless I'm missing them, very few solar panels. Interesting and kind of disappointing.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I worked through freight from Beacon Parkto Selkirk NY on The B&A. From First Street to Springfield out via Readville,Walpole and Framingham, to Cedar Hill Ct via the Shoreline and the Springfield Line. On Local freights to Fitchburg, Lowell, Readville, So Braintree, Plymouth and West Hanover...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

F Line. Take a breath. I worked on the territories OK? And do you really think that Back Bay riders would abandon Amtrak because they had to travel an extra mile to board the train? I don't. But, enough of the histrionics F line. It's off putting. I don't know what you do for a living but I...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Well you may be right, but I actually worked on both railroads, both before and after the Southwest Corridor was re- built, and I find it somewhat amusing that I am asked to provide evidence and data for my "what ifs" beyond my personal experience, while being expected to accept an argument...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

The purpose would be to increase capacity in the Corridor, for expanded commuter rail, while improving service on the Fairmount Line, without impairing Amtrak's service. The route over the second district is feasable. The speeds could be increased, it's shorter, and there would be time saved by...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

D You presume their revenue would be cut by eliminating Back Bay? What are the alternatives to somebody who normally boards Amtrak at Back Bay? Do you think an Acela Rider would just head off to Logan?or just take the T, or an Uber, or a taxi ,to South Station. I do not believe there would be...
