Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Any chance this means Eng has just... forgotten about the BMU and we are back to actual electrification ?

    60 Kilmarnock St | Fenway

Great location, probably one of the best little restaurant rows in all of Boston.

Wentworth Mixed-Use Life Sciences Complex | 500 Huntington Ave | Fenway

I feel WIT has been doing a decent job on redevelopment and new buildings, but, yeah, this one is not it, and hurts the pride a bit (as it should the architectural depart!). Only way this works is if they dedicated a street level space to a Punter's revival, and/or brought back Sparr's from down...

Only 4 years behind schedule? A dream.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I'd make a bit of a caveat here: CSR didn't even lose, they were straight up disqualified by the MBTA from even participating in the bid after the initial RFP. I think also any article on this needs to call out in the first paragraph the decision to require a new plant in Springfield, and it's...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

I rather have to agree. Short of filling the canal in, the bridges are pretty important and a direct problem caused by the state when they created the canal. I'm the first to ask the question of how many NSRLs this would buy - but also acknowledge, that, like the NSRL, these are needed...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Dug up the previous discussion starting here-ish. TLDR; Generally ops/congestion issues and constraint on the 3 track layout, 4 track might make it more feasible. I'd argue land taking, especially of private residences makes it a no-go (or at least into crazy pitch territory), although, I...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

It is my understanding from previous discussions on this that a Cummins Highway/Canterbury in fill wouldn't be possible.

I'd though in Internet infrastructure, too. The Cape is, last I checked, only Comcast and given the monopoly it's essentially hand me down Comcast as far as equipment. Download is probably fine, but upload speeds are probably terrible which can be a factor in WFH. Nothing like a good symmetrical...

Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

I think it was a Virgin Megastore in 2003? Which might have kind of been similar. I think the tower records was still open on the corner of Bolyston St and Ipswitch in the Fens in 2003, though.

Simmons University Living and Learning Center | 300 Fenway | Longwood

Drove by the other day - better half had a thing a BW/DF (extremely unfortunately), and, had the kids, and figured I'd show them the alma matter @ BLS and then WIT (and, of course, Ms. Gardner's house, as they know it), and somehow missed this thread and was pretty surprised at the construction...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Has Eng chimed in on this at all? I would think given his background running an actual electrified (and diesel) commuter rail system he would be more of a voice of reason against the insanity of a full battery build out. Why can't we get something like the M9s on the LIRR/Metro North and start...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Well that and the whole seemingly failed attempt at rehabbing the PCCs to last until the hand-me-down Type-9s get to the line. Seems like the Type-9s will eventually arrive before the rebuild is complete.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Yeah, seriously. I have no desire to get soaked going from the station to platform. Sure I might from the station to my house, but at least I won't have to ride the train doused in water.

Shreve, Crump & Low Redevelopment | 334-364 Boylston Street | Back Bay

Yeah, plus there is still a restaurant up there. I haven't tried it, but the better half said it was pretty good and got a pretty reasonable package that included entry to the rest of it.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Yeah - I'd point to Tokyo's system which has had 3 Star Michelin restaurants inside it, but really, just need to point to NYC and how there are a ton of magazine stands/coffee/etc which are super convenient even on platforms to grab something quick and not worry about missing a train. I've...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

You are literally describing the Cape as it has been for decades. If anything, year round living on the Cape is better now than it's every been, even a decade or two ago absolutely everything closed off season other than the packies.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

So, I do get it, and since I was old enough to take the T, one of my main gripes is that stops are generally close to, but outside of the main areas. See anything on the Orange line after realignment, or even Fields Corner or Shawmut and others. Especially compared to say NYC, where Subway stops...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I hope it doesn't degrade service on the Chelsea portion. There seems to be adequate ROW to make almost the entire thing real BRT. Why not branch up Everette Ave (move the Chelsea stop across the street, keep the turnaround loop for short running), and then use the Revere Beach Parkway as a full...

View Boston (Observatory) | Prudential Tower | Back Bay

Yeah, I've done One World Trade Center a few times and it's basically that. I will say the elevator ride is a bit longer, so maybe the extra time helps to pad out the movie. Otherwise, I'd say it's very similar on the way up and down.
