    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

The couple times I've used a bus during this mess, they weren't collecting fares. If you started approaching the fare box, the driver would wave you off.

They should include the exact language in the conversation if that's what he said.

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

This is what they're actually quoting him as saying on the red-blue connector “We’re taking a look at what engineering would be required and then what the funding needs would be, along with a whole bunch of other projects that we’re looking to fund as well.” No context for what question was...

    Northeast Multi-state gas (carbon) tax

The goal with carbon pricing is not just to fund other green energy initiatives; it is the green energy initiative.

Housing (Supply Crisis & Public Policy)

Where is this abundance of residential land universities have bought up over the past decade? And how would you explain the explosion in housing prices in cities without such a strong presence of major universities?

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

The MBTA has recently studied changing CR fares with a more gradual fare increase after Zone 1A or by creating a separate off/reverse-peak pricing scheme. Of particular interest to me was reverse/off-peak pricing since I tried my hand at (crudely) estimating this earlier this year. The T...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

My understanding is this comes with a major liberalization of zoning laws in other areas, which should make it more difficult for NIMBYs to block something since many projects won't need a special permit.

    General Infrastructure

"competing bills" is an inaccurate description. The supermajority for upzoning needs to go regardless of what else you're doing (unless that's taking zoning authority away from municipalities entirely -- which afaik no one is proposing). And when the legislature has ignored this most basic of...

    Penny per mile odometer tax

There's strong consensus among economists that taxing harmful behavior (ie that which causes negative externalities) is a good idea, even absent of the need to fund the government.

Those look like pedestrian hell. And it's worth noting that the UK is on a trend of tearing up roundabouts out of concern for bike and pedestrian safety.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I see absolutely no reason to make that inference based any part of this presentation. I think it will make more sense if you ignore slide 9 (it's a repeat of slide 7).

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

The 10,000 number you refer to includes part time commuters.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

The latter group is among those I meant by "occasional riders" (the contrast with "daily commuters" should have made that clear). My point is that you can't attract any notable amount of of daily commuters (as in more than the niche crowd of supercummters) without turning this into a boondoggle.
