Getting shined up (8/31):

How would this work taller?
In reality or in fantasy? I think the building, without zoning or programmatic constraints, would scale up quite well. I did a quick and dirty markup of the fantasy version back in 2022, below.

In reality, though, I suspect this is already maximizing both the zoning envelope and the ventilation/mechanical constraints of lab space. Going much taller would likely require significant zoning changes, as well as a shift in program from lab to office.

I know I am like a day late, hundreds of millions of dollars short, and mostly delusional but I like the current design, its just like 700' short. My PowerPoint dream:

That does look awesome. That would be a great proposal for a non-lab building.

^Opening for the venue is set for November 6th

Article mentions they are planning on 60 shows per year.

I really wish the BPDA (or whatever it's called now...) would let developers play with color in Boston the way they have been over the last few years in Cambridge. This beautiful, rich, articulated, colorful facade would have been "What we heard"ed away to a greyscale palette if proposed in Boston.

I'm not a height-for-height's-sake guy, but IMO this really is an almost aesthetically perfect building that could have been a total knock-out had its proportions been shifted just a bit. For instance: upward by one more of the tiers from its tiered design. This said, it's damn close as is.

One additional layer to the cake I think would have been perfect!

So true, I love this building and am in the area several times per week and it is totally lost being the same height as those around it and will even more so as taller buildings around it go up. But it is like a surprising gem as you come closer and notice it among its neighbors.

The new theater / performance venue (The Platform) has its grand opening to the public Saturday, November 7. It appears they have acts, performers, events etc. with tickets now on sale well into next year, with some really great programming (Joshua Redman Quartet!!)
