I find this utterly extraordinary. A group of otherwise highly credentialed and sophisticated architects & engineers has produced this slickly-packaged website

http://www.ae911truth.org/

claiming there was a conspiracy underlying the 9/11 collapse of the Twin Towers and the adjacent skyscraper.

Globe columnist Alex Beam wrote this column about them a few days back:

http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2015/11/16/the-truthers-and/Y3RrUaEHaOakG60crFM9bK/story.html

Which prompted Mr. Gage to write this rebuttal letter in response:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/letters/2015/12/04/evidence-still-raises-questions-over-world-trade-center-collapses/5xWSDfumsdDhw9XFThirKJ/story.html

As a phenomenon of collective self-delusion/irrational thought processes, I find this utterly extraordinary, in that a group of such supremely educated and otherwise presumably highly rational individuals would succumb to self-fulfilling prophecy or whatever the proper clinical description should be for this mental derangement.

Anyway, even if this thread causes a few crazy truthers to come out of the woodwork, it still seems reasonable to initiate in that, at a higher level, it seems like there should always be sensible ongoing free inquiry and discourse among architects and engineers about the physical forces and dynamics surrounding the collapse of the three towers.

That said, if this thread immediately gets derailed by crazy ranting 9/11 truthers, then I strongly encourage ArchBoston administrators to eliminate it.

This site does a good job at scientifically analyzing the situation: http://www.debunking911.com

Edit: The central issue with AE911 is that they produce very biased evidence as support for their claims instead of looking at the whole picture. They cut video too short and don't include complete statements, only carefully selected excerpts.

Ah, that's great to see; thanks for sharing.

My optimistic, scientific/humanist perspective is to think that, in the net aggregate, there was far more rational insight produced from the towers' collapse--in terms of revelations regarding more sophisticated building/regulatory codes and engineering techniques--than non-rational insight of the nature these truthers are spewing. I hope that's not being too optimistic; I don't think so.

You know, this might be the first time that I'm thankful I'm no longer subscribed to the Globe. If I had read those articles I'd probably be so pissed off about the 911 truthers and not sleep most of the night.
