Cultural Organizations

I think we had a thread on this before the crash last summer. This is something I've always been curious about, considering the common interests of those on the board, and the many threads on museums, music venues, and so on.

Where do people go "to get their Art on?" Is it Jazz at Wally's, Warhol's at the MFA, or open mic night at the 303 Cafe?

I'm not proud to admit this but I haven't spent a great deal of time in Boston's prized cultural institutions.

I've been to the Gardner but once (I loved it but I haven't been back...yet)
The MFA less than a handful of times and the only time I've stepped into Symphony Hall was for the Christmas Pops show (oh, and once for a David Sadaris reading).
I've been to all of the area's major theaters (Wang, Opera House, Wilbur) for maybe a dozen shows (all touring Broadway 'hits').
I've been to one small artsy-type show (Poona: The Fuck-Dog it was called, ugh ) put on by some now-defunct theater group.
I have been to all the tourist traps numerous times (Science Museum, Aquarium, etc)

The long and sad list of places I've never been:
ICA (old or new)
Any Harvard Museum
MIT Museum
Club Passim
ART
Any Handel and Haydn Society performance
TT the Bears
Middle East
The Orpheum
Any BSO performance
Plus many more that either I've forgotten or don't even know exist.

And yet I can recite Monty Python's Holy Grail line for line. Pathetic.

I almost missed this thread.

Outside of Boston, I like to day trip. Lenox is a nice place to stay and explore the Berkshires. North you can go to Mass MOCA or The Clark, south to Great Barrington. It is a great part of the world and it is good to see more connections with the Boston art scene.
