Furries hehe

i have some friends that are furries... and living in Pittsburgh... lets just say... they are everywhere.

They had a convention in Boston back in ('06?) at Hynes.

I remember riding the E to Prudential to work that morning and wondering why all these sexually ambiguous riders in costume were touching each other while making cat noises. They tended get in the standees' personal space, which was a little unnerving.

And that's the story of the time I met the furries.

Academia to the rescue:

In their 2007 survey, Gerbasi et al. examined what it meant to be a furry, and proposed a taxonomy in which to categorise different "types" of furries. The largest group — 38% of those surveyed — described their interest in furry fandom predominately as a "route to socializing with others who share common interests such as anthropomorphic art and costumes." However they also identified furries who saw themselves as "other than human", and/or who desired to become more like the furry species which they identified with.

And here's an interesting word to weave in at this year's Passover seder or next Thanksgiving dinner:

Sexual arousal that depends upon imagining one's self as plush or anthropomorphized animal is autoplushophilia.
