‘Olympic-style’ sports complex proposed to elevate Holyoke as volleyball’s global home

“HOLYOKE — A state-of-the-art sports complex could bring up to $41 million in new economic activity to Holyoke, its backers say, and burnish Holyoke’s reputation as the birthplace of volleyball.

“We want to make Holyoke the sports capital of New England,” said Cesar Ruiz, a local businessman and leader of the USA International Sport Complex Group.

Details of the plan include approximately 140,000 square feet of indoor space, 16 volleyball and basketball courts, pickleball courts and other activities like arcade, bowling, and rock climbing at several locations throughout the city.

The project aims to capitalize on Holyoke’s rich history and bolster its status as the birthplace of volleyball and as an emerging hub for sports development.…..”
