I know that there are plans and/or studies conducted for the 93/95 interchange up in Reading/Wakefield/Woburn.

How likely is this project to actually happen? It always amazes me how inferior that interchange is, especially given the volume of traffic that runs through it. The renders show promise.

It will happen as long as the various abutting NIMBYs can be placated -- I'd give it a 65-70% probability of getting started in the next 5 years

Yeah, that one is about as max-priority as it gets for highway projects in MA. They will shuffle the deck around tight finances to make sure that, Canton split, and Braintree split don't have to wait too many more eons to get done. Too much of the traffic flow in the region is dependent on a well-functioning 128 that the area of secondary influence for these fixes pretty much does stretch everywhere east of Worcester and NH border to RI border.

Unless these interchanges are physically falling apart (like the Fast 14 I-93 bridges were), why spend any money to fix them?

Because they are both inadequate and very outdated. Both the 93/95 interchange in Reading/Wakefield and the 93/95 interchange in Canton are terrible and only cause traffic flow to slow down.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well, it is broken. I have to take this route to work. More times than not, the traffic is back up for miles and there's a line of cars second the 3rd lane while blocking cars from 128 from entering. I'm glad that there are plans about it. This board might not be too big into cars, but improvements are still needed.
