I have a job interview in Boston next Monday at the metro area planning commission. It may make sense for me to take the position if it is offered despite living two states away. I would take the bus from Portland to Boston which drops me at North Station (or is it South?) about a mile away from 60 Temple Street near Macy's. My question: would I have to walk or bike the remainder of the way or is there a convenient T stop from one place to te other? Hopefully I've provided enough info -- it's concord trailways which again I think is north station but I could be wrong. Thanks for any commuting input!

Yeah, that's easy. If you're dropped off at North Station, take the Orange Line down to Downtown Crossing, and if you're dropped off at South Station, take the Red Line up to Downtown Crossing (or just walk, it's not too far).

The bus likely drops you off at South Station (the train would take you to North Station).

Yeah, likely South Station, which is an easy jaunt to work on foot, or a quick one-stop jump on the Red Line.

Why not move? That commute would be absolute murder.

Seriously that is a suicide commute.

Somehow my dad did a two-hour commute each way for four fricken years. I was super young and never asked many questions (all I remember is him not being home much) but I should inquire how the hell he managed that for so long. And this was from Brattleboro to Albany...no highways, mountainous terrain and harsh winters oh my!

If I had to commute from 2 hours outside Boston, Portland would probably be my only choice. I'd want to do the Downeaster, though, not only for the comfort and predictable schedule but also for the bottle of Shipyard to be had on the way home.

Downeaster doesn't have a great Boston commuter schedule... board at 5am arrive at 7am is really your only option there (caveat: writing this off the cuff based on recent memory... could be outdated info)

Agreed. Downeaster could be nice for a super commute but the times don't really make sense.
