Long Island Boston

Checking out Google Earth, just wondering what the big complex was in the middle/end of the island. It is the one connected by a bunch of causeways off of Dorchester/Quincy near the Tank.

Nevermind, found out about the Long Island Hospital on Wikipedia. Van, feel free to delete.

Although, you may want to try some UE here. Fort Strong, some old NIKE missile sites, the lighthouse, the hospital, the organic farm...it could have potential, I don't really know.

You'd have to get there by private boat, or by stowing away on one of the MBTA buses 274,275,276 that take homeless people (and maybe employees) to and from the island. You can't drive, bike, or walk across the bridge, which is in very poor condition.

Interestingly, there was once a giant anti- U-boat chain that was pulled tight across the mouth of the harbor from Long to Deer Island.

Speaking of islands with interesting pasts, Plum Island off of Long Island New York. For a good read check out Lab 257 by Michael C. Carroll, it is about the germ warfare research center that was shrouded in secrecy on the island.
