This is an estimated $800 million residential and commercial six-building complex slated for a four-block stretch from Tremont Street to Clarendon Street over the Massachusetts Turnpike in the Back Bay and South End - similar air rights projects over the Turnpike include the Prudential Center in 1963, Copley Place in 1983, and the Hancock parking garage in 1969.

The residential condominium portion of Columbus Center currently encompasses 44 affordable units with average prices of $180,000 - $220,000, and 399 market rate units with average prices of $1,266,270 - $3,385,200.

Pre-construction (site preparation such as painting stripes on pavement, pulling old shrubs, adding fences, testing dirt, etc.) began in September 2007, and has gone through stops and starts.

Once entirely underway, completion of the deck over the turnpike is scheduled to take approximately 2.5 years, and construction of the actual buildings should take at least another year.
