Serious question: is grey paneling significantly cheaper than other colors? I can't fathom why a designer would cover a building like this in shades of grey when colors would make it so much more vibrant, inviting, and engaging, even leaving the massing exactly as is. On a cloudy day this building is oppressive... that's a choice, why??

I tend to agree, but be careful what you wish for. Architects these days have shown they couldnt give a shit less about context and build things like this when they use colorful party panels. For some reason they think that if they splash a million shitty colors on an ugly building at least it will stand out. Id rather have the above building than some rainbow monstrosity.

There obviously has to be a happy medium between plain grey boxes and crazy colors thrown up on a wall. Color to some architects seems to be like booze to an alcoholic: one drink is too many, and a thousand drinks isn't enough.
