Don't think my hometown of Shelton deserves its own thread, but was really excited to see this open up today on the Shelton-Derby Bridge. Was told there's now protected bikeway all the way from downtown Shelton to the Derby train station.

So, so much potential along the Waterbury line with a lot of dense downtowns.

Good idea for a Naugatuck Valley thread. Naugatuck should be adding some TOD next to the new train station soon. Sad to see so much parking though, and not much of any street wall development.

Yeah, they’re taking more of a “super block” approach to that site’s redevelopment. I’m sure there are reasons they’d prefer handling it that way than subdividing to create more (but smaller-scale) development sites, but it doesn’t lend itself well to building at a scale/pattern that naturally integrates with its surroundings. Personally I would have strengthened the site’s relationship to Maple Street as that provides the quickest path to the heart of the existing downtown. You still have to put most of your focus on Old Firehouse Road as that’s where the majority of the site’s frontage is, but there are no cross streets providing easy access to Church Street through that giant block. (In fact, a new road/walkway could be useful here.)

There is a new walk way to church street on the north(right) side of the existing parking lot between church and firehouse road that more or less lines up with the new station driveway.
Ask and you shall receive, I guess! Glad to see they were thinking along similar lines. That should go a long way towards promoting connectivity with the downtown area.

Penrose development coming along nicely, with the core done and framing for the first floor underway, and ground work for the new station underway in the background.

The aforementioned walkway is getting a nice archway treatment

As a bonus, the Amazon warehouse in Waterbury is also shooting up now.

I like the attention to wayfinding and I’m glad to see they made it aesthetically-pleasing. This walkway was an important piece of the puzzle to get right if you wanted to make sure the existing downtown district wouldn’t be treated as an afterthought, and it looks like they’re getting it right.
