Representative Chris Pappas, a Democrat from New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District, is considering a run for Shaheen’s seat, according to a source familiar with his thinking. Pappas has represented the competitive district, which includes Manchester and Portsmouth, since 2019.
Former representative Annie Kuster, a Democrat, praised Shaheen as exemplifying “integrity of the highest order.” Kuster said that if Pappas doesn’t run, she would “take a serious look at the race.”
On the Republican side, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, who served as ambassador to New Zealand in the first Trump administration, was considering a New Hampshire Senate bid even before Shaheen’s announcement. Brown challenged Shaheen unsuccessfully in 2014.
