Just a thread for random images with some sort of historical connotation to them. Doesn't necessarily have to be new things stomping on the old, but anything which brings back thoughts of how it used to be.

RIP Scollay Sq

Where in Allston is this, and what sort of store is now in that building?

That's at the southeast corner of Harvard Ave and Cambridge Street, and I don't think there's been any businesses in there for years.

Jack Young Co. uses all those abandoned-looking buildings as warehouse space

What a strange way to use a prime retail location at one of Boston's busiest corners.

Meanwhile in Downtown Crossing......

It's busy but not in the way that makes people want to spend time there anymore.

I knew it! I've always noticed their forlorn looking storefront a few hundred feet up the road and half-suspected they might also occupy the corner building, but never knew for sure. Well damn...nobody's expecting much from a vehicle parts supplier but I do wish they'd do something to say "hey, these buildings are, in fact, occupied!"

It could be if you put the right store or restaurant or cafe there. Using it as a warehouse is wasteful.

Wow, so he owns that whole pocket of Allston. Well hurry up, lands values, and get soaring so we can get someone in there who presumably cares about the area!

You guys should check out his flickr stream - great then and now's even if you don't know the locations.

RIP A LINE

Paul says that the Jack Young building was already gutted and closed off by a previous owner before Jack Young bought it.
