No one has taken the bait and tried to guess where. Or maybe it was obvious. These are Lewiston and Auburn, which have some great starting points for good urbanism. There is a riverwalk in place, too. Unfortunately, urban renewal and a depressed economic climate have ruined a stretch of Auburn's Court Street, and some really good mill space was destroyed in Lewiston, but there are a lot of good remnants of positive urban design.

*scratches head* Still trying to figure out why the Downeaster is headed for Brunswick and not L/A.

Brunswick lost the naval air station recently, a major employer, and many think this move was an attempt to throw them a bone. Additionally, the practical reason is that many more people, especially from the south, come to Maine to go to the coastal region, which is primarily accessed from Brunswick (I think there may even be another train or bus service that picks up there and goes to the touristy towns and islands....Bar Harbor, North Haven, Vinal Haven, Camden, Wiscasset, Rockland, etc...all the places you would see on a Postcard).

the Amtrak isn't really commuter rail, so Lewiston-Auburn was bypassed as an option for a more sensible day trip destination, so the argument goes. Many in L-A are not too pleased about this, however, for obvious reasons. The other day I saw an old brick building in downtown Lewiston that said Portland-Lewiston Interurban. Its an office building now.
