Now shining as it did in 1933, when first illuminated.

Blessed by the Cambridge Historical Commission, and through the efforts of the gas station owner, a Hungarian.

Sorely missed Boston kitsch those years it was dark. And the years before that when it was barely wheezing along. Impressive that the gas station owner put up his own money for the restoration, but it's probably the biggest driver of revenue he's got.

I've always loved that sign just as much, maybe a bit more than, as the Citgo sign.

Shell is great, there was a beautiful Cocacola sign near to where the DoubleTree Guest Quarters is located

Ah -- but none --even the mighty Citgo -- can compare with the old Cains Mayonaise / Potatochips neon sign which used to loom over the MIT athletic fields from Vassar St.

It was quite possible to turn off the lights in certain dorm rooms in Baker House and read by the light of the Cains sign

That was a sign of significance both from the artistic perspective and also as a prime target for hacking -- much of the time it said Mayo / Pot -- occasionally it said other more clever things

that sight was a landmark for me all through college as almost every saturday night i would drive into harvard square to go see rocky horror. there were a few times we stopped in at shell station dressed in our rocky best and got quite the looks hahahahaha.
