Is it just me or has this summer been the coolest, wettest in recent years? I remember last year there were not as many thunderstorms passing by and it seems like this year, one can expect a storm practically everyday. It feels more like London or Seattle than Boston this year with so many storms passing by. Not to mention the incredibly low temperature that seems to persist. Even today, with current temperature only in the middle 60s and highs on the lower ends of 70s, this is a far cry when temperature in Boston during August is around 80s-90s. Is it possible that this will be a continuing trend and an effect of global warming?

I won't speculate on global warming connections, but I'd just like to say that I'm tired of having the same exact weather every single day. 80 degrees, partly cloudy, with a rumble/shower around 3 in the afternoon, ad infinitum (or perhaps nauseum).

Don't get me wrong, I know this is relatively good weather, and I'm happy that there haven't been many temperature spikes, but I like changes in the weather. At this point I wouldn't mind it if it rained for four days straight, just to break up the monotony of it all.

Hell, if I wanted it to be 80 degrees and partly sunny every day, I'd move to California and be, in the words of Bill Hicks, a f***ing lizard

I can't agree it's been the "coolest". Every day in July was around 80-90 degrees. But, rain every day, yes. And the past week has been not so good.

Andy: Man, what's with this weather? Global warming, am I right?!
Jim: ... yeah, I bet it was supposed to be cold today.

The summer started out very dry but it's been wet the last few weeks. July was the third warmest on record in the last 50 years in my town ... mostly because nighttime temperatures were way above normal.

I know it's sarcasm but most people believe that the only effect of Global Warming is, well, a warming in temperature. But that's not the case. Global warming causes polar ice caps to melt creating more liquid water, thus causing more precipitation in the atmosphere. With more cloud cover, it's possible certain area see a cooler than norm. It just seems to me that this year there were more thunderstorms and cloudy days then what people saw in the last few years.

Oh and just so I can be more clear with my initial post. I'm don't mean to say that the current weather is an effect of Global Warming but was just wondering if this could be an effect.

Wow. Things are really, really slow around here in August, huh?

In Worcester it has been pouring and hailing for nearly an hour, there's also a tornado warning in the athol area.

Cow flatulence has also been proven to be a direct and proximate cause of global warming.

I've sometimes wondered whether the growth of the human population has led to a flatulence based weather change.

With regard to our local weather, do you think a shift away from a bean based diet would result in an increase in the number of sunny days?

Hey, I like this thread. I derive pleasure seeing you guys complain about all the hail (wtf?) and such wreaking terror on New England this summer. It helps ease the pain of being away from Boston, and away from all of our, um, wikkid new developments, sprouting up into the air at the speed of...paint drying?

During the summer I lifeguard at a beach on the SouthCoast, so we pay attention to the weather like it's nobody's business. I can't attest that this summer has been particularly cooler (down here anyway), but it has been a little wetter than summers past. Especially the past week. It seems that every day recently has brought sprinkles, rain, thunderstorms, small showers, or precip. in some form.

I've been a fan of the weather this summer though. It hasn't been too hot or cool (except for a temperature drop the past few days), and the sun has been consistent (we even had a mini-drought a few weeks ago down here). It's been ok. On a scale from 1-10 (10 being the best), I'll give it a solid 7.

Any updates from the Athol area?

I heard an F5 Tornado just ripped through there and all 243 trailer homes were demolished. The town is completely destroyed. Witnesses accounts relay a gruesome scene stewn with shredded Dale Earnhardt Jr. Flags and crushed budweiser cans. [/sarcasm]

I completely agree, this weather is a little freaky. July was extremely hot. The threat of thunderstorms everyday is exactly like the weather in florida. That's a little scary. Up until two weeks ago or so, my area (south shore) never got any of those t-storms that nailed the northshore and boston everyday and it was very dry. And multiple tornado/warnings?
