Worcester Infill and Developments

And now, Wormtowns last candlepin bowling alley is closing? O tempora o mores!

Table Talk Pies is moving its original production site which is next to the ballpark to an industrial site about a mile west. An old factory building had to be torn down to make room.

Current site right next to the ballpark:

Probably means they'll be shipping by rail now too, since they're right inside the cold storage wing of P&W Southbridge St. Yard with their co-tenants taking fridge cars on the spur across the street.

Unlikely, if you check the 3D view on Google Maps, there's no door large enough for rail service at any of the three buildings. And that press release is for their cold storage facility that opened last fall. The factory is going in off of Gardner & Tainter (two of the last cobblestone streets in the city, if not THE last two cobblestone streets in Worcester), which is next to CSX's part of the B&A.

The former Creative Packaging factory on the corner of South Ludlow & Clover is finally being demolished. Local developer is building condo's on the site & paving Clover Street. Plan is for 11 multifamily, low-rise buildings, 90 total units. Don't have a site plan on hand (found the plan number, but not the file on the city website), but don't expect anything amazing. Don't have a photo of the demo on hand at the moment, but they're making fairly decent progress.

Also, WPI is proposing a new 4 story dorm on the site of their graduate student housing at Salisbury Estates (corner of Park Ave & Rumford Ave). Not much for renders (presentation only has this on the cover with no further color renders), but it will be replacing some of the garden style apartments on the property and additional buildings not in the footprint of this building will be coming down as well.

Lastly, least impressive of all, the old auto body on the corner of Belmont & Natick has been demolished, all the way through 15 Natick Street. UMassMemorial's landlord at 306 Belmont Street/350 Plantation Street is building a 2 story parking garage with ~139 spaces on the property.

As an update, Worcester Business Journal is reporting this project has been approved.

This project just secured funding and is moving ahead, which I find both encouraging and surprising. Perhaps the most exciting addition to downtown Worcester in the near future.

At the same time, Unum is closing its downtown Worcester office after 120 years and have the remaining 400 employees work remotely.

Wasn't that supposed to be a Ruth Chris? Kind of a downgrade from Ruth Chris to TiTs.

Ruth Chris location is directly across the pedestrian walkway (to the left). Both were supposed to be built but not sure what things are looking like for Ruth Chris.

Memorial Grove in Green Hill Park was supposed to be completed in 2018 for the centennial of the end of World War 1. I just noticed it was accessible for the first time today:

Who is memorialized in the park? WWI dead from Worcester only, or from across the state?

It’s a memorial for Worcester residents afaik. Each rod represents a fallen soldier.

WW1 KIA from Worcester only. This is the second iteration of it. Originally it was a grove of trees, with every tree representing one KIA.

Glad to see this proposal. The building needs to be preserved.

Man, that photo brings back memories. Used to work in downtown Worcester back in 2014 / 2015. Spoodles Deli (the blue storefront) was a go-to lunch spot. Loved their sandwiches!
