Chicago-based LaSalle Investment Management has acquired 10-20 Channel Center St., a brick-and-beam office located less than half a mile from the future headquarters for General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), for $118.6 million.....

"As one of the few fully-renovated brick-and-beam Seaport properties, the property is well-positioned to continue attracting strong demand from prospective tenants who are drawn to the Seaport’s vibrancy and character," Schreiber said in an email.

“We have a favorable view on 10-20 Channel Center as it is well-located in Boston’s Seaport District adjacent to GE’s future global headquarters and within the immediate path of continued densification.

and the more important is new proposed construction

Channel Center developer proposes office, R&D building near future GE HQ

A real-estate development firm that has shaped much of South Boston has plans to build a mid-rise office and R&D property near the A Street Park, Channel Center and Artists for Humanity.

CV Properties LLC proposed an eight-story, 266,750-square-foot office and R&D building at 105 W. First St., according to a letter of intent filed Dec. 15 with the Boston Planning and Development Agency....
CV Properties also developed State Street Corp.’s (NYSE: STT) 12-story, 500,000-square-foot Channel Center office and revamped a 970-car garage at One Channel Center. New York’s Tishman Speyer acquired the property for a combined $316.5 million last December....

In the letter of intent filed with the BPDA, Galvin wrote that the project proponent “currently has the project site under a binding contract of sale with its current owner.” A brick building that has been used by telecommunications company RCN-BecoCom exists on the site.

CV Properties is also proposing a pedestrian connector linking its new building, A Street and West Second Street.

“West Second Street lies about 12 feet above the West First Street grade, so providing this new pedestrian route will greatly enhance residents’ accessibility to the city’s newest park — A Street Park,” Galvin wrote in the Dec. 15 letter of intent.

BKNA -- yes -- if you like reading history and believing that it is predictive

All of what was then in the plan is Obsolete -- once GE committed to the HQ -- its a whole new world

Essentially, unless you own the property such as New Balance -- your plan for the surroundings is about worth what the bits that get filed as a pdf are worth

Are we calling the whole area the "GE Area" now? I'm all for renaming NECCO St and/or NECCO Way as Edison Way or similar to crrate a bit of history here but it seems a bit over the top to refer to anything beyond that as the "GE Area"

We should maintain the history of the neighborhood by keeping the Necco Street and Necco Court naming as-is. (Though it would be funny to rename it Fairfield Ave)

Definitely should not be called GE area.

Also, what about changing the thread title to be consistent with the board:
General Electric (GE) Headquarters | 6 Necco Ct | Fort Point

But you seem to suppose that GE decided to locate there with no context. All of the planning and development that has gone into that area over the past decade or so is what attracted GE. They are moving to a perceived area of high energy (!) and innovation that also has some cool historic fabric. If they wanted a blank slate there are plenty of other places they could have chosen. So while the decision to locate GE there will certainly attract the attention of developers and businesses, GE certainly isn't starting something. They are getting in while the getting is good.

This thread should be deleted. "GE Area" is Fort Point. Mods please delete.
