Hexagon Properties bought the existing building at 29 Commonwealth Ave for $30 million in January of 2017 with the plan to convert the building into a private social club. The club aims to be more accessible than other Boston clubs, with a $3,000 a year membership cost and hopes to attract about 800 members.

This isn't without controversy, as some recent Boston Globe articles report:

A zoning meeting, originally scheduled for 10/31/2017 has been rescheduled for 1/9/2018 in order to give the zoning board time to review community feedback.
And a little more history on the existing building.
