The FASHION Store! JUST like in NYC!

Either that or Kraft should BUILD a stadium here.

Hey, any store that carries designer labels like Andy Warhol, Love Therapy, Scotch and Soda, Thelma and Louise, Titto, Who's That Girl, and Yum! is okay by me.

Probably serves Belgian white beer in the cafe too.

Re: Filene's

No Seriously. Target is awesome. Why not Walmart next door as we already have CVS, Staples and Bank of America ATMS all down Summer Street.

Great vision and creativity for Downtown Boston. It will look like exactly the strip mall near Wellington station in Everett. As matter of fact it will look like every other strip mall across the State.

NO VISION OR CREATIVITY for molding Boston DTX into something great. Instead the vision that the BRA gives us is the same thing being built in every other town and city. A prime location that should have made a mark in the city. Don't worry Vornado just pulled a deal out with TARGET. Isn’t Target the Anchor for the Fenway Project?

The BRA should have been looking at Times Square for ideas. Owe I forgot Boston is not Manhattan.

This is a KEY location to really making the city different.
The city is spending hundreds of millions of tax dollars to relocate VERTEX to Fan Pier. VORNADO is just sticking it to the city, saying GO FUCK YOURSELF you bunch of Hypocrites. The politicians can give money to some projects but not others.

http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view/2011_0909for_many_downtown_target_hits_bulls-eye/

This statement says it all “No one has talked to me,” Menino told the Herald. “I’m bent on getting a development down there — whatever it is. The owner of the property should respect this administration and tell us what they plan to do.”

Menino is powerless against Vornado at this point.

Just remember that HYNES demo'd this sight without knowing he had proper financing. I'm betting he knew the markets were going to shit and said the city and state will have to bail us out so demo the sight. The problem I have is that when Vornado basically fired Hynes, The BRA all of sudden okay's the SEAPORT DISTRICT for his development. HYNES really screwed everybody with this type of thinking.

Now Vornado is probably looking at the best way to make money since they know the city & state are not giving them a dime.

Menino does not care what is put in this location because he is tired of hearing about the hole.

And the citizens of Boston get stuck with TARGET.

GREAT JOB to all the PARTIES INVOLVED. TALK ABOUT A MUCK DEVELOPMENT FOR A PRIME LOCATION.

This deal actually makes the FAN PIER DEAL a good one. At least giving 71 Million in tax dollars to a private developer we get the relocation of some of the biotech industry from Kendal to Fan Pier.

Not giving taxpayers money we GET TARGET. Why is the BRA even in existence with this type of basic thinking?

Next I’m going to hear that Chiofaro’s Idea for knocking that harbor garage is the worst idea for development for the city and this guy wants to give the city 50 Million dollars in private money.

This city’s morals are really warped.

Re: Filene's

The question was, if not Target, then which store should go there?

Here's your chance to demonstrate the failings of Menino, the BRA, Vornado, every developer in Boston but Chiofaro, by identifying a better store than Target for this site, and you can't come up with a name? Even the name of a store in Times Square will do.

Re: Filene's

The city of Boston could have tried to recruit anybody for this location. Major retailers, Nordstroms, Bring Back Filenes Basement, completely reinvent the area with working with VORNADO.

Maybe TARGET was the best we could do..........without Taxpayers intervention.

The question you have to ask yourself.

Do we go with TARGET or keep the HOLE? That is the situation the Mayor and the BRA have us in. Of course Target is going to be a success. Anything is better than that hole.

The Mayor is crying about Walmart coming to the city of Boston. Honestly what is the difference between Target and Walmart? Can't wait to here this one.

Re: Filene's

Reread. Under the current plan we get Target and keep the hole. Target won't fill the hole.

Re: Filene's

For Filene's Basement,

http://articles.boston.com/2011-07-09/business/29755995_1_syms-corp-shareholder-meeting-suit

For Nordstrom, that's where I go for my $80 tee shirts, and my $100+ ties, and my shades.

For my ties,

For my shades,

And Nordstrom's has the best shoe selection around.

But alas, I think Downtown Crossing is too Downscale or too Downmarket for them.

Re: Filene's

Downtown Crossing could use a store like Target or Walmart. Would you rather overpay for stuff at CVS?

^^^
Stellarfun,

I'm not saying Nordstroms or Filenes Basement was the answer for the development.

Just answer this
The Mayor is crying about Walmart coming to the city of Boston. Honestly what is the difference between Target and Walmart?

I actually agree with the Mayor on Walmart. I'm not saying they should not be aloud in the city but the city should let them pick their locations wisely.

When you think of Target or Walmart.......you think of a GIANT MASSIVE STORE WITH EVERYTHING IN IT. I also find it depressing shopping in it.

Re: Filene's

Yeah, but Stellar's shirt won't fall apart after the second washing.

Re: Filene's

TARGET is in and that's all that matter............ forget the RANT it was wasted energy.

The symbol of the city of Boston greatness. TARGET takes over the new FILENES area.

We still have Copley Tower going up.

I agree, the area could be a bit like Times Square, though it's not really wide enough and plaza like, so it wouldn't really be exactly like it. But you do realize, don't you, that Times Square is packed with chains. Maybe not a Target, but a Toys R Us, an Applebees, etc. What you complain about is just the sort of thing that you'll find in the ideal you've listed. We should definitely hope for the vibe and spirit of Times Square, but that isn't incompatible with stores like Target.

Youre right there will be chains in both cities.Times Square is full of chains and Boston will also be full of Chains.

My complaint is this development location should have set the tone for DTX (VIBE & SPIRIT). THE FUTURE----- Yes Target or Walmart could have been in DTX area but somewhere else not this specific area in this development
This area was poorly PLANNED.
That is my point.

When you envision that area.......Should have been Coffee Shops, Outside Restaurants, down on the strip, People playing music in the city, Housing, maybe Suffolk U could have rented a 1/8 of the apartments, Jazz club,
Homemade Blueberry muffin shops, Nordstroms Flagship store.

Maybe a huge WALL SCREEN PANEL showing the sox games outside. The vision is unlimted to Filenes Location.

A reason to go shopping in the Downtown area. I don't think TARGET is going to make me jump on the train to go downtown anymore

OOO! i ate at that appplebee's. It is the worlds largest... and there is a Uno's and Ruby Tuesday's right next door.

Re: Filene's

It is a bit discouraging that we spend time talking about how the BRA and Vornado are having discussions with Target.

Or how the director of the BRA may call Eataly to replace Borders (on another thread).

The evolution of Downtown Crossing should be something considered by the BRA and its property owners on a much grander scale. But instead they are working against each other, not in collaboration.

My support for Target is definitely based on a fairly low bar of expectations.
