Tomorrow night's topic: Past Futures: Learning from Past Planning Efforts

What might we learn from some notable previous planning efforts, particularly the last master plan: the BRA’s “1965/1975 General Plan for the City of Boston and the regional core?”

---

The spring 2016 Myra Kraft Open Classroom at Northeastern University will focus on “Shaping Boston’s Future: Aspirations, Opportunities, and Challenges.”

The impetus for this series is the Walsh Administration’s Imagine Boston 2030 initiative, which seeks to create Boston’s first citywide plan in 50 years. Of course, both the city and region have changed dramatically since that time.

The new planning effort (and several related initiatives launched by various city and state entities) are trying to identify strategies that will preserve, enhance, and grow neighborhoods and communities in ways that promote shared prosperity, encourage sound public investment, and create a healthy environment and population.

We will spend the semester exploring various aspects of these efforts. To do so, each Open Classroom will feature remarks by a mix of public officials, civic leaders, and local scholars, conversation among the speakers, and questions and conversation with the people who attend the sessions. As always, all the sessions are free and open to the public.

Damn, didn't see this until two days late. I'll try to make the Feb 17th one with Sec. Pollack.

If you go to the website that JohnAKeith linked, they are posting youtube links to videos of each session. Takes them a few days to get them posted, and so the second session is not up yet. The first session is up.

I was at the second session. Interesting panel, well worth taking the time to watch the video once it posts.
