Photo of the Day, Providence Style

First time looking at this Providence thread. Providence really needs a large Cthulu statue. With other statues of Lovecrafts creations spread throughout the city

There are many places related to HP Lovecraft in the city. These include a square named for him, former home, store, library where he hung out, and his final resting place at Swan Point Cemetery.

Lovecraft also often frequented the Providence Athenaeum on Benefit Street which was very close to his childhood home (now occupied by a Brown Univ building). The library also has connections to Edgar Allan Poe as he wooed local resident poet Sarah Helen Whitman there in 1848. It is thought she may have broken off their engagement there after finding out he had broke his promise to stop drinking. There are busts of both Lovecraft and Poe there.

That is cool, but I’m talking a Cthulhu statue, maybe a Deep One, stuff like that!

District Park looks great - wish that were around when I was kid!

It is looking good. They were taking down a massive tent on Sunday that was used for some part of the RISD graduation. The Guild is back with its beer garden every weekend and there were multiple food trucks. This was the first of the Sundays Providence Flea. Will be even better once the permanent pavilion that will house the Guild and a Seven Stars Bakery coffeehouse is built.

Some random photos during a recent work trip to Providence. Lovely city. Several of the downtown streets could use a major road diet. The highway and mall are pretty awful in terms of pedestrian connectivity from downtown westward :/

Shout out to Reprise and Little City for some great coffee options.
