Sean Duffy, Fox Stalwart, Gets Trump’s Nod for Transportation Secretary

It does not appear that Mr. Duffy has any relevant experience. Regardless, this is an unusually important selection as the incoming Transportation Secretary will have large influence on the distribution of remaining IRA and BIL funds. While the federal funding firehose has already been disappointingly highway-oriented, we can expect to see the remaining funds be directed even more towards highway projects and particularly for capacity expansion projects.

Jesus, I thought you were joking, so I looked it up. lol
He was on some of the first reality tv shows (RealWorld and Road Rules) and later was a tv host on Fox. His wife was a Real World and Road Rules cast member on MTV as well. In one person's mind, that makes him extremely well qualified.

Say goodbye to quality railroad oversight.

Sean Duffy Confirmed as DOT Secretary by 77-22 Vote

The Senate confirmed Sean Duffy, a former Fox Business host and Wisconsin congressman, as the secretary of transportation today by a vote of 77 to 22.

Democrats say their surprise opposition to the confirmation Duffy can be blamed on the Trump administration’s new funding freeze. After all Democrats voted to advance the former House member’s nomination on Monday, 22 opposed it today. Democratic officials said it was a protest vote over the escalating spending fight.

Duffy released a memo from DOT that rescinds past guidelines including any that relates to DEI. It further prohibits funds to areas with mask mandates or places that do not work with the administration on enforcement of its immigration policies. According to the memo, programs and activities supported by the Transportation Department should prioritize projects that improve transportation for “families with young children” and “give preference to communities with marriage and birth rates higher than the national average.” This memo applies to DOT and DOT-supported grants, loans and contracts, including existing agreements.

Just as an FYI, much of what is in the DOT memo mirrors Duffy's personal beliefs. He and his wife are Catholics that are strong proponents of large families. They have nine biological children. Staunchly pro-life, Duffy often extols the virtue of large families. “Every baby we’ve had has been a gift from God and has come from blessings. And so we take every gift we’re given. A strong proponent of parents’ rights, Duffy has opposed COVID-19 vaccine mandates, as well as any policies that infringe upon mothers’ and fathers’ absolute authority when it comes to the caring for and raising of their children. “I know my kids best,” says Duffy. “I know what morals and values are right for my children. I think we should not have an oppressive state telling us what to do.”

DC already talking layoffs, service cuts

Governor Healey of Massachusetts's current stragety is "hope". Should we be worried about service cuts and layoffs here with Boston's MBTA? Hope isn't exactly a strategy.

(I really should just go ahead and block the remainder of news feeds I haven't yet blocked)
