That full-on side view from across Fort Point Channel is really not very attractive. The varied window effects in the several sections of the tower seem quite jarring. Some pics from yesterday

couldn't disagree more. to each his/her dentifrice. That full-on side view from across Fort Point Channel is really not very attractive. The varied window effects in the several sections of the tower seem quite jarring.
Yeah, I don't think this building is all that great. I know people have waited for it for a long time, so getting something is better than nothing, and therefore fulfilling in that sense. But objectively it's not a special building. It's yet another blue glass structure that is at least not just a plain box, and the domes at the train station level are kinda cool, but otherwise it's pretty disjointed. And that big hole above the old station house... I really hope they cover that off, but I sadly don't think they're going to. Altogether I give it a 7 out of 10.That full-on side view from across Fort Point Channel is really not very attractive. 7/10 isn't bad! It's interesting to me to have the resi component with the office component. Not a ton of buildings like that in this country... or other countries as far as I know.Yeah, I don't think this building is all that great. ......but you are possibly/probably correct that this is the only such mixed-use office/residential skyscraper in Boston.
how right you are! my only excuse (feeble) is i think even less of the office space at winthrop is leased than at SST and i just think of it as 100% residential b/c at least many of the condos are sold. How about the recently built Winthrop Tower?!?!?!

I'd suggest that no other Boston development in the last decade has made more of an impact on its location than SST, skyline and otherwise.I can't disagree with that. I think the developments like the Harriet Tubman House replacement are much more impactful to their surroundings, if not the skyline.
I was being generous because I didn't want people to attack me for giving it a 5 or 6.7/10 isn't bad! It's interesting to me to have the resi component with the office component. Not a ton of buildings like that in this country... or other countries as far as I know.
Wow I thought more of the residences had closed. YikesWinthrop’s around 50% with a third of the condos sold. SST’s at 13% at the moment.
Imho even the New Haven Union station is more beautiful than the South Station main concourse lol.Question. Is the main hall with the food court, etc. going to be renovated or improved? It does still look rather dismal, especially in light of Moynihan in NYC creating that space into perhaps a destination outside of taking or arriving on a train. The main bisecting bar is fantastic. First impressions for new arrivals to the city should always be good ones, as you never get a second chance for that first one. I won't say anything about the bus terminal side. It could be worse, and that entrance low height ceiling... watch out if you're more than 6'6" with some of the hanging signage). But in light of Port Authority, which is perhaps one of the most depressing public spaces anywhere, maybe Boston's bus side is not so bad after all. Boston is becoming such a unique and exciting city look for the future, and it should not falter with its transportation offerings.
