NYC Architecture and Development

Curious what everyone’s opinion on 270 Park Ave are. It is undeniably iconic. I think I like it, but the base kind of bothers me and makes the area look stressful
I hate the base. It's the most hideous, strained and distorted architectural feature I've ever seen in a building.

Yeah, I was just being nice about the base in case I was the only one. It’s terrible.

The ceilings must be super in this building since it’s only 60. Not many more than the former building

I saw this 1937 road map of NYC today in a book store, originally published by the HM Gousha road map company. It really shows the beginnings of Robert Moses parkway system in NYC and to the north. Sorry for the resolution, as I took the photo with my phone, but it's still fairly readable.

In December, Live Nation officials announced plans to debut a custom-designed glass structure atop the Manhattan venue for winter concerts starting in late 2025. Now that’s no longer happening, a spokesperson from Seaport Entertainment Group announced Monday (Sept. 22).
[...]
“After careful consideration, The Rooftop at Pier 17 will not be hosting enclosed events this winter,” the statement reads. “We’re committed to delivering best-in-class events and experiences for our guests, but due to several factors we feel it is in our and our partners’ best interests not to move forward. We look forward to continuing our work on future programming for the 2026 season as our commitment to bringing one-of-a-kind performances and events to NYC’s most scenic stage during the outdoor season remains unchanged.”
It’s unclear why plans changed, but sources tell Billboard that supply chain issues and delays made the project unsustainable for the current winter season. Rather than risk additional delays, officials decided earlier this month not to move forward with the enclosure project.

So I might be wrong, but I think the highest occupied floor is below the whole LED section. If true, I am even more perplexed why any of this was done.

Please remember that these are concepts from a feasibility report. These are not full or final designs.

I like how the overcrowded bronx gets screwed again..
Err, please correct me if Im wrong but I was under the impression that the modern iteration of the 2nd Ave subway was always supposed to turn west at 125th - this is a logical extension considering that, and a upper crosstown route would be super useful. That said, in the FEIS Phase 2 of the 2nd Ave Subway was provisioned for a bellmouth at the 125th st curve for northbound tail tracks or for a future fork into the Bronx? If they've deleted that I haven't seen it yet, but even so it probably doesnt preclude a fork here. I'm unaware of any detailed planning has ever been completed on what routing such a extension would take in the Bronx? Has there been any official concepts over the past century of what that would look like?

As far as i know the bellmouth to the Bronx was not built. It was canceled to save money. Someone that is more versed in this can probably chime in with more info.
