I dont think it's a good project at all, but it's sad to hear that the Arboretum apparently was offered the option of expanding its footprint and declined—they probably could have gotten some sort of city and state support for such a purchase, which could have led to a much greener presence as you head toward Arborway. The hypocrisy stuff is unsurprising.

The Poor Clare Nuns wrote to Harvard President Alan M. Garber ’76 alleging that Arboretum Director Ned Friedman has spent nearly two years blocking their monastery redevelopment — while waving through a project tied to Harvard Medical School.

While the nuns waited for months to meet with Boston Chief of Planning Kairos Shen, Friedman maintained consistent communication with Shen about his opposition to their project.

It's Harvard's town and we're all just living in it.

90-year-old Boston monastery now to be demolished for 158-unit project​

“A former monastery in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood is now planned for demolition to make way for a five-story residential building.

Sixteen Penny Co. now proposes a five-story building on a smaller footprint with a 50-foot wooded buffer from the arboretum. The nuns moved out in 2023.”
