MECA&D is looking to restore the ground level Congress St facade, which I think could be a good thing if done right. Do any of you know when the existing canopy was added? Any photos of what it looked like prior?

It appears that the canopy was added in the early 1940's from this photo. The first photo I'm guessing is from the mid 1930's without the canopy.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the mid-century stuff (and I love that older lettering in the second photo) and wish it would stay!

I wish they'd bring back the cresting from this era, it really finishes the top of the building nicely.

Seems likely.

I know they won't, but it would be nice if they would install a fountain at the India St. end, similar to the one Jordan's had. You can see the vestiges of it inside the hedge circle in that last pic.

Also, oooh! The sign for the U.S. Garage! I remember that (although I never knew exactly where said garage was, just that it was down the hill)!
