Do you ever travel 25 through Westbrook especially at peak hours? It cannot handle that much more traffic.
Also a Westbrook resident.
Rt 25, Spring Street, Stroudwater, Main Street, Saco Street, New Gorham Road, Longfellow .... genuinely can't handle more congestion.
The
MAJOR issues with this area are the turning lanes leading up to Mechanic Street, Saco Street, and the merge with Main Street.
The
BIGGEST issue is the right-hand turn INTO the Convenient MD and should be eliminated. The flow of traffic comes to a complete halt as people slow down to turn into this location. The "two lanes" really becomes congested down to one.

BETTER idea for this entire RT 25 corridor would be a major traffic circle at Rt 25, Main, New Gorham Road, Longfellow.
Even
BEST idea would have been not building Convenient MD there in the first place so there was enough room for a decent sized traffic circle (and include the Saco Street intersection with Rt 25, Main, New Gorham Road, Longfellow)
