Old Port Square (née Canal Plaza) | Portland

By waiting until 2028 could they theoretically wait out the absurd 25% affordability requirement? Is the 5 years almost up and will that be rescinded? At least the new zoning maintains the potential for future height here and elsewhere, even if this particular tower doesn't happen. It just seems that, once the affordable housing requirement is too high (for instance Boston raised it from 13% to 20%), the only residentials that actually pencil out are the cheap 5-over-1's.

It's goofy but it won't be funny when huge sheets of ice sheer off in the spring and fall to the earth like One WTC in NYC.

Hey, all. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this project's status moving forward, through the grapevine or from any other sources? I always look through the Old Port Square e-newsletter, but unfortunately it never includes updates on the potential building. I know this is not an overnight type of project and will take years, but I would love it if this comes to fruition, keeping my fingers crossed!

My understanding is that work will begin next summer on the ground-level and off-site improvements (the new public plaza, building foundations, utilities ect) and that the tower will start going vertical in early 2028. There's quite a bit of site work that needs to be completed before we see the tower actually start to rise.

... And that's assuming the foundation dig doesn't hit anything unexpected. It's Intown Portland; as we saw with Congress Square, anything could be down there. Maybe my goddaughter the archeologist will get involved!

Thank you for the update. I'll be excited to see this develop! We need a signature building.
