Re: Congress St Garage is being sold.
Wow, how old is this getting? Projects get proposed- NIMBY Bostonians shoot them down... I'm surprised development firms can even survive in this town. This plan is perfect- too bad it won't happen, or will but in a substandard bastardized form...
ABSOLUTELY- that is just freaking gorgeous and so much better than the ugly yellow ones. Do you really think it costs that much? I think about the towers in the Financial District or even the Empire State Building being lit up all the time- it can't be all that much more.
And yes, my ADD kicked...
My thoughts exactly....
Perhaps ornamental lights stay on??
They should just make the switch to LEDs for most of this stuff. Saves energy, keeps everything illuminated. Winners all around.
It's like the Pru- they should permanently switch it back to those awesome blue LEDs they had...
Agreed- they are a little overpriced- but much preferred to the alternative of faceless corporatization or more bland upscale/ gentrified business development (how many martini bars and lounges must this city have??)
My fiancee and I remember fearing that James Hook would be gone forever with...
Re: Columbus Center
As a newer member of this board- but a long time reader, and further: as a "carpet-bagger" who has been educated and done work throughout my so-far short career in such places as the Rust Belt, Mid-Atlantic and South, I am consistently puzzled by the development process in...
Re: Filene's
When I do renderings, I make sure to cover 3 important bases: how it fits in with the pre-existing surroundings/ ie a wideout view, the good ol' elevational drawing, and finally (sometimes most importantly) how the project meets the street, pedestrians and all.
Make of that what...
I'm not exactly sure what thoughts on this topic are/ would be.
My wife and I got priced out of the neighborhood after about 4 years. Landlord raised rent by $300 a month! On top of that- condo prices are now through the roof.
Talk of neighborhood fixtures like the Quiet Man Pub, etc. being...
If you reeeeally want to ruffle some feathers- just say "This is what Broadway in South Boston should look like." Haha
Seriously though- that would work really well on Boyleston or in Downtown Crossing...
Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
Then maybe the T will improve bus service to Davis from surrounding areas...
Lord knows- there sure aren't enough buses going up and down Boston Ave. or Broadway. ESPECIALLY nights and weekends.
Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower
It does provide great coverage of development in the City, the problem is- the coverage is horribly biased against new projects/development.
Hence the patrician NIMBY letter.
Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower
Last time I checked- isn't the Boston Courant normally very slanted against development anyway?
What we need is a solid letter to the Globe lauding this project as well as letters to the Mayor and City Council AND the BRA.
But at the end of the...
Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower
Agreed- but what is the best way to ensure that the developer's feet are held to the fire that a affordable complex somewhere else in the city goes online at the same time or near it as the tower?
Young professionals don't want to rent forever and...
Re: The Merano
Decent point- but I think you need to note that many of these neighborhoods where these landscrapers are going up already have a specific character or are attempting to develop it. The question rises- is this the bar you want to set? I'm no fan of gas stations and fast food...
Re: Green Line to Medford to start in 2011
I think you make several good points in your reply. Davis has been a very interesting creature, indeed- the T stop was considered the catalyst of change, of course. I would say that a key component in addition to this is the close proximity to Tufts...
