While grounding the overpass would've been ideal, I understand that grounding it while maintaining a Pike crossing and connecting to Storrow was always going to be tough.
That being said, I appreciate the simplification of the southern terminus into a four-way intersection that creates a...
Really like the chosen design. LOVE the fact that the effort is pursuing the use of CLT.
From a design standpoint, living above a firehouse is just another challenge to design for. As others mentioned, folks already live adjacent to the buildings and grow used to the alarms. When we talk about...
"modern" - 80's Florida aesthetic haha
"below grade" - partially sunk slab with blank ground floor.
I get that this is Hull and the building will take an absolute beating from the ocean, but WOOF!
Frightening statistics coming out of Brightline. Thanks to everyone for helping breakdown statistics.
While grade crossing elimination is not financially feasible, to operate at higher speeds the safety improvements need to be regulated at a much higher level. Brightline has been praised as a...
Hey All, Sorry for reviving such an old thread.
I'll be relocating back to Boston after seven years away in Spring 2025 and wanted to pose reviving some form of meetup. I've been very active in a very similar group here in Nashville that meets every month (first Saturday at a central location)...
We for sure have lower rates. I talk with my family all the time because everything is electric in my house and it is still cheaper than MA electric bills (something I am preparing for as I will be moving back to the area in March 2025). NES is unfortunately very stubborn in investing in the...
Something else to keep in mind with burying utilities is it may not be solely up to the city. Here in Nashville we have a Form-Based Code for the downtown with bonus height that outlines incentives for added height/density. They have been working through a revision to those bonuses that includes...
While I will be critical of parking inside of the 95/128 loop, South Shore Plaza is served by two bus routes that is not so direct to the two nearest subway stations. This development is talking about 1.5 spaces per unit, which is pretty average for multi-family. Even better when considering...
I really like the new info boards being included on the grab rails, but are there any concerns of vandalism or these screens getting beat up pretty quickly? Apologies if this was discussed up thread already.
Maybe, guess we will wait an see. I think if they were going to be fully enclosed like the levels below, then the curtain wall mullions would've have been aligned like they are on the levels that have been enclosed. Instead, we are seeing just the slab edge treated creating that misalginment...
I really like those last two photos that show the transition from fully enclosed space to partially enclosed balconies and then traditional balconies. Nice architectural detail.
I was thinking the same thing when I first saw that, but then when I looked at the street alignments - specifically the angle - makes me understand it a bit more. I don't like it in principle, but the radius for the turn would've had to pretty large to make turning feasible.
Cool. I hope they make it work and make it cost efficient. I am one though that will always critique projects like this. We should always be willing to look critically at things for improvement. I am a firm believer that with these long range plans, we should always be willing to critique things...
