Very unique view. Downtown Brooklyn skyline from manmade hills in new park on Governor's Island. Looking over East River / Buttermilk Channel.

One Manhattan Sq is a horrendous blight on the East River. It's truly a tragedy for the skyline and views of the bridges. Not to mention its impact on the neighborhood.

Thank you. Been here two years. This was a random sampling. I've got a lot. I guess I could just open up my Flickr account and let everyone see. In a way, that's better, it's a shame on some of these to have to reduce the size. I may still post a few more here from time to time.

I have some general NYC pics, buildings, skylines, etc. Does anybody know where the appropriate place to post them is?

You're better off reading the New Yorker article, helpfully archived here which is a lot clearer (although it still misses some important details). The problem has nothing to do with the cantilever except in as much as that led to the use of multi-level chevron trusses in the exterior walls. The...

'Decking' for a park is actually much more expensive than for a structure. A park typically with landscaping and trees needs several feet of soil with loads approaching 120 pcf per ft depth, so potentially 300-400 psf plus additional point loads for tree boxes, retaining walls, statues or other...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

You need to take a lot of the opinions expressed here with a huge grain of salt. They all reflect various different kinds of experience and knowledge. These warnings apply equally to my own comments. You certainly don't need bedrock for tunneling. A tunnel is in many ways no different than a...

    Boston 2024

http://theconversation.com/boston-2024-city-eyes-many-challenges-and-opportunities-in-bid-to-host-summer-games-36395 Editor’s Note: Last month the United States Olympics Committee picked Boston to lead the US bid to host the Summer Games in 2024. Mayor Martin Walsh recently began a series of...

+1 I am against parking for all of the obvious reasons including induced demand, land use, tax base etc. But is there any actual evidence that there is a parking problem in Boston? A cursory google shows that Boston parking is expensive, but not unusually so. Not to mention the places with...

    Boston 2024

Downtown: Boston Olympics bid could put passenger rail ‘on a faster track’ "Boston is a near-straight shot south from Concord, just 70 miles on Interstate 93. Those 70 miles could be the distance between Concord and the epicenter of the Summer Olympics in less than 10 years. .... Could the...

    Boston 2024

I strongly agree with West in his conclusion that ultimately it is state of Mass and to some extent the Fed that will bear the completion risk for the Olympics. Any insurance taken by the Partnership will be limited in size and may not cover every eventuality. Olympic delivery budgets do...
