Is it? I think the latest you could be on this graph and not be getting what is about to happen is December 2023, exactly two years ago.

Looks pretty volatile to me, not sure it was the obvious conclusion before that second availability surge. That said, what is the lead time for a project like this? Wouldn't all sorts of balls already have been in motion by December '23?

That's what I was thinking. The regulatory and project development process is so lengthy that suddenly changing the type of development in a large complex project like this would be like trying to immediately turn around a cruising aircraft carrier.

Seriously, Glob? A drawn-out fluff piece on the "Man Behind The Deck" that barely mentions the giant FUBAR of a stalled development that was supposed to go on top of the deck? That was 900 words of text my braincells are never going to recoup the wasted effort of reading.

It would be nice if we could make it useful in some way until then for the people who live/work near there. Like roll out some cheap fake turf, get some tents and a couple cornhole sets, and put a popup beer garden in there.

(I'm not holding out any hope for something like that actually happening tho)

The trouble with making it into anything that even remotely resembles a park is that when the time comes to convert it back to a building site, then the NIMBYs raise hell about losing a park, and also 4F regulations may even kick in.

I get the impulse to refer to it in that way, but this is really significantly different, mostly in favorable ways.
  • Unlike the hole, this is now a ready to build parcel.
  • It covers a scar, rather than having created one.
  • It could potentially become a temporary plaza, rather than a dangerous hole.
  • It improves access to a transit station.
  • It did not involve the destruction of a landmark quality building.
Yes, this is a development pause, but the parcel was improved before that happened, rather than degraded.
