I’m being Captain Obvious in predicting THAT (along with the pedestrian bridge over the Public Gardens swanboat pond) is going to be one of the most photographed spots for couples visiting Boston.

Well done. Cities should be filled with mirth, whimsy, creativity and these types of spots everywhere. You may not love each one and what they represent, but give me the full toybox instead of the minimalist suburb any day.

Fucking wow, Samuels really nailed it!! Pics don’t do this development justice! Seeing it for the first time approaching from the turnpike was almost overwhelming!! It’s sheer presence looming over the Pike was surreal! Happy 2026 to all!! Cheers! 🍾🥂🎉

I was there a few weeks ago and forgot to go by last week but at the time the MBTA entrance had not yet opened, I think because of "supply issues" or "didn't know this was gonna be so difficult". Anyone confirm?

My understanding is that it's significant enough of a change that would trigger the full accessibility requirements for the entirety of Hynes Station, or at least an accessible path of travel to the platforms. That was supposed to be funded and completed contemporaneously as part of the Parcel 13 Air Rights project... Unfortunately, that's a Peebles vaporware situation, and hasn't materialized yet. SWA had some funding for design in the absence of Peebles money, but doesn't have enough to move things to build ready.

Long story short -- forces not in any way connected to this development prevent the option of opening it on the station side of the tunnel.

But they did install an elevator on the Lyric side that takes you down to the platforms. It's just not open. That's not enough for an "accessible path of travel to the platforms?"

This is one station I've had to use a bunch lately and actually really needed an elevator. It's frustrating seeing that brand new elevator that's just closed off.

That's not quite correct. The elevator on the Lyric side goes to a long closed pedestrian tunnel that is at the mezzanine level. Until there is an elevator from the mezzanine to the platform level, the station is not accessible, regardless of the new and currently unused elevator.

Interesting... and incredibly disappointing. Do you have a source for this?

My main source is that I know where the tunnel goes from when it was still open back in the 80s. I have seen it mentioned from time to time in articles about this project, but I don't recall specifically where.

[edit]
You can kind of see how it's configured in this schematic from the wikipedia page:

Yellow is the mezzanine level, green is the platform/track level.
