Portland International Jetport | PWM

Agree and the jetport director sent it to me today and it is for general guidance understanding that changes to equipment do happen on occasion. Not sure of how often the service chart is updated but Gates 12 and 14 have only been active for around a year.

Apron layout showing all 14 gates at PWM. Paul mentioned that it needs a few updates as this one was completed in September 2025 and he also shared that construction of the 4th deicing pad has just been completed.

138' is really quite odd for a apron box - it's substantially larger than Group III, yet not big enough for any of the group IV aircraft other than the 757. I'd chalk it up to legacy things, but that's still narrower than most 707s and DC8s wanted and those gates were only built in the 90s.

Anyways, PWM has only seen a relative handful of 757 ops in the 21st century - FAA numbers say exactly 56 passenger operations since 2000. Back of the envelope math says that you could have taken that extra 18ft from those 2 extra gates and with a little repainting created a single proper common use group IV gate - depending on wingtip spacing that'd have given PWM the ability to accept 767s. Not that there's a point right now to do so, or generally - new Group IV aircraft are uncommon - so to accommodate future widebody traffic you'd probably want to go straight to a Group V gate.

Correct, but Delta did use them daily in the late 90's with flights to CVG and if I remember correctly one flight actually originated in BGR and another one stopped in ALB. This was a big deal for Portland at the time and was also prior to the runway being extended to 7200'.
