"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

Another great resource: old Boston street engineering documents: http://sceris.cityofboston.gov/sceriswebpwd/client/SimpleSearch.aspx?FoldersList=%3a13 For example, here they say that at least this bit of Mass Ave was renamed on April 5, 1870 - pretty precise!

"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

Indeed. I have emailed BAHS as per dwash59's suggestion; will report if I hear anything. After work I will look more into the history of the Avenues. (Unless anyone beats me to it!)

"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

And - in 1895 it is Mass Ave in Boston - I guess we're looking at 1894-1895! http://www.wardmaps.com/viewasset.php?aid=3437

"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

Indeed, if you follow the map up in the Brighton atlas, this Mass Ave ends in the Business School campus, pointing right at Harvard Square. http://www.wardmaps.com/viewasset.php?aid=1032

"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

This would match up with the fact that the map is from 1890 - as they were thinking of different routes. It was also during the 1890s that the track was sold to the rail yard; perhaps that transaction ended the hopes of the Allston Mass Ave, and they had to find another route?

"Other" Mass Ave? - Allston 1890

http://www.wardmaps.com/viewasset.php?aid=1036 This cadestral map from 1890 Brighton (h/t Ward Maps!) shows a lot of interesting things (the race track that predated the rail yard, for example) but also a "Massachusetts (proposed) Ave", going from Packard's Corner north, to the river. Anyone...

    Old bridge Boston

Hi all, I'm trying to find the history of a bridge. In this photo purporting to be from 1920, there is a bridge downstream of the BU bridge. I can't find any map with it on Ward Maps old maps, nor any mention anywhere else. Anyone know the history? Thanks!
